Measuring A Room Environment

Tom Grounds - Personal edited this page Jun 24, 2026 · 1 revision

Asset Intelligence allows you to actively observe and record the environment of a room over time.

This is called a Measurement Session.

What Is a Measurement Session?

A measurement session collects real-time environmental data over a period of time.

It captures:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Air quality
  • Particulates
  • Noise
  • CO₂
  • Structural signals
  • Other configured sensors

Why Measurements Matter

Measurements allow you to:

  • Understand how a room behaves over time
  • Validate whether conditions are stable
  • Capture real-world environmental patterns
  • Evaluate whether a room is suitable for an asset
  • Compare conditions across multiple sessions

Starting a Measurement

To begin a session:

  1. Open an asset
  2. Click the three-dot menu
  3. Select Start Measurement

What Happens When You Start

Once started:

  • A timer appears on the asset
  • A Stop button becomes available
  • The system begins collecting observations
  • A counter shows how many updates have been captured

During Measurement

The UI shows:

  • Elapsed time
  • Number of updates

This allows you to determine:

  • Whether enough data has been collected
  • When the measurement should be stopped

Stopping a Measurement

When you click Stop:

  • The session ends
  • Data is summarized
  • A measurement record is created
  • The session is written to Activity history

Where Measurements Appear

Measurements are visible in two places:

Asset View

On the asset:

  • Measurement sessions appear in Activity
  • Filter by Measurements
  • Each session includes full details

Room View (Important)

All measurements are aggregated at the room level:

  • Shows all measurement sessions across assets
  • Displays session count
  • Shows last session
  • Provides average observations per session

Key Concept: Measurements Belong to the Room

Even if a measurement was started from an asset:

👉 The measurement describes the room environment

This means:

  • Measurements remain even if the asset moves
  • Measurements apply to all assets in the room
  • Measurements build a persistent environmental history

Example

You perform measurements in a room over several days.

Later:

  • You move an asset out of the room

The measurements:

✅ Remain in the room history
✅ Continue to inform future decisions

Best Practices

✅ Run measurements at different times of day
✅ Capture both daytime and nighttime behavior
✅ Measure during seasonal changes
✅ Let sessions run long enough to stabilize
✅ Use multiple sessions to confirm patterns

Summary

Measurements allow you to observe how a room behaves over time.

They are:

  • Time-based
  • Data-driven
  • Persistent at the room level

Measurements help answer:

  • Is this room stable?
  • Is this room suitable?
  • How does this room behave over time?
