This section allows you to define and maintain the identity, placement, and descriptive details of an asset.

What You Can Update

Identity

  • Asset ID (internal reference)
  • Asset name
  • Asset type

Placement / Location

  • Near window (Yes/No)
  • Facing direction (e.g., North, East)
  • Exposure zone (freeform description)
  • Placement (physical placement)
  • Location detail (precise positioning)

Enclosure

  • Enclosure type
  • Whether the enclosure is sealed

Descriptions

Multiple perspectives can be recorded:

  • Guest description (general description)
  • Owner notes (history or meaning)
  • Insurance notes (coverage, value context)

Manufacturer and Warranty

  • Manufacturer
  • Warranty status/details

Attached Device

  • Link the asset to a Home Assistant device (optional)

Attached Tracker

  • Assign a BLE or tracking device (optional)

Why This Matters

This data feeds:

  • Environmental risk calculations
  • Advisory logic
  • Location awareness
  • Asset traceability

Best Practices

  • Be specific with placement descriptions
  • Use consistent facing direction values
  • Include enough detail for someone else to locate the asset physically

Accurate asset metadata is the foundation for meaningful intelligence.
