Understanding Risk and Advisory

Asset Intelligence evaluates environmental conditions and provides insight into how those conditions impact the assets in your home.

This is done through two connected concepts:

  • Risk
  • Advisory

Overview

  • Risk answers: “Is there an immediate issue?”
  • Advisory answers: “What should I be aware of or consider?”

Together, they transform raw sensor data into actionable understanding.

Risk

What Risk Means

Risk represents:

The system’s evaluation of whether current environmental conditions could negatively affect an asset.

Risk States

Risk is expressed as:

  • Green – Conditions are within acceptable limits
  • Amber – Conditions are outside ideal ranges but not immediately harmful
  • Red – Conditions may cause damage or require immediate attention

How Risk Is Determined

Risk is calculated by comparing:

  • Current environmental conditions
    to
  • The thresholds defined for the asset

Example

  • A piano with a humidity range of 42–50%
  • Current humidity = 60%

Result:

👉 Red Risk — potential damage due to excessive moisture

Advisory

What Advisory Means

Advisory provides:

Additional guidance, context, or recommendations beyond immediate risk.

Types of Advisory

Advisory may include:

  • Environmental considerations
  • Missing sensor coverage
  • Long-term exposure concerns
  • Best practice recommendations

Example

  • No UV sensor present
  • Asset is sunlight-sensitive

Result:

👉 Advisory might indicate:

UV exposure is unknown — consider adding a UV sensor

Relationship Between Risk and Advisory

Risk and Advisory work together but serve different purposes:

Concept Purpose Time Horizon
Risk Immediate condition evaluation Now
Advisory Context and recommendations Ongoing

Key Insight

You can have:

  • ✅ Low risk + high advisory
  • ✅ High risk without advisory

They are independent but complementary.

Where You See Risk and Advisory

Risk and Advisory are visible:

  • On the Asset detail screen
  • Within Room context
  • During Measurement sessions
  • In Activity history (when changes occur)

How to Use Risk and Advisory

Use them to:

  • Identify when action is required
  • Understand environmental patterns
  • Decide where to place assets
  • Improve sensor coverage
  • Validate room suitability

Best Practices

✅ Define accurate thresholds for each asset
✅ Review advisory messages regularly
✅ Use measurements to validate long-term stability
✅ Treat alerts as signals, not just notifications

Summary

Risk and Advisory provide:

  • Immediate awareness of environmental problems
  • Context for better decision-making
  • Guidance for improving conditions over time

Together, they shift your system from:

Monitoring conditions

to:

Understanding what those conditions mean for what you care about ``
