ModelExtras is a modification that adds extra functionality to pedestrian, vehicle, and weapon models in GTA: San Andreas. This mod enhances customization and introduces new features to improve your gaming experience.
⚠ Important: To work correctly, ModelExtras requires model adaptation. Pedestrian, vehicle, and weapon models must be adjusted accordingly. Detailed adaptation instructions are available in the sidebar.
Follow these key guidelines to use ModelExtras effectively:
ModelExtras will not work by default. You must adapt your pedestrian, vehicle, or weapon models for compatibility. See the sidebar for step-by-step adaptation instructions.
ModelExtras works with models designed for:
- EarShot (Functionality included in ModelExtras)
- PedFuncs (Functionality included in ModelExtras)
- VehFuncs
- EnhFuncs
- ImVehFt (Functionality included in ModelExtras)
- AVS (Functionality included in ModelExtras)
You can combine these mods for even more customization options.
The game limits node names to 23 characters. Exceeding this may cause crashes or problems, so keep names short.
Perfect! Since that section includes metadata as part of the model/config file, we can add a Metadata Guidelines subsection to the existing list for clarity and best practices.
Here’s the updated and expanded version of the Guidelines section, now including metadata tips:
-
Avoid Undocumented Features
Do not use undocumented features, as they are not officially supported and may be changed or removed without warning in future updates. Many ImVehFt models rely on such features, which often results in unpredictable behavior and hard-to-debug issues. -
Explicitly Define All Parameters
Never rely on default behavior. Always define every parameter explicitly. For example, even if your model doesn’t require a rotation and the plugin currently defaults to0.0, you should still includerotation: 0.0in the JSON. This ensures compatibility with future versions, where defaults might change or be removed. -
Follow the JSONC Schema Closely
Stick to the provided JSONC schema and structure. Incorrect nesting, missing brackets, or misplaced fields can lead to silent failures. Always double-check formatting and field names, and validate against a known-good schema when possible. -
Provide Accurate Metadata
Every config should include ametadatasection to describe the model clearly. For example:{ "metadata": { "author": "Grinch_", "desc": "Lamborghini Aventador SVJ", "creationtime": "2023-10-01", "minver": 10700 } }- author: Your username or alias.
- desc: A short, meaningful description of the model.
-
creationtime: Use the
YYYY-MM-DDformat. - minver: Specifies the minimum required version of the plugin for compatibility. Keep this up to date if your model depends on newer features.
Including accurate metadata makes it easier to track versions, resolve compatibility issues, and support future maintenance.

Happy Modding! 🎮
ModelExtras uses .jsonc files (JSON with Comments) for configuration. JSONC is just like regular JSON, but it allows comments using // or /* */, making files easier to understand and document. The plugin uses these .jsonc files for vehicle configurations (ImVehft carcols .ivfc, sirens .eml, AVS sirens .json) are loaded from ModelExtras/data folder.
Recommended editors:
- Visual Studio Code (with built-in JSONC support)
- Notepad++ (with JSON plugins)
- Sublime Text
These editors provide syntax highlighting, formatting, and comment support for JSONC files.
To create or adapt models for ModelExtras, use one of the following tools:
- 3ds Max – Use with Kam's Max Script
- Blender – Use with DragonFF Plugin
- ZModeler2 – Built-in support for GTA formats
These tools allow you to export compatible models for GTA: San Andreas after proper adaptation.
