First run & onboarding

On first launch Tome walks you through a one-time setup wizard. Every step is reachable later in Preferences (⌘,), and you can skip any of it.

1. Agents

Tome detects the agent CLIs you have installed (claude, opencode, pi) and shows them with a green dot. You can add a custom CLI here too — see Custom agents.

2. Assistant provider

Pick the model the assistant uses. Tome reads the matching API key from your login shell — if it's missing you'll be shown which key to set. See Setting up an assistant provider.

3. Voice

Tome tests your microphone and reports the speech engine. On macOS this is Apple's on-device recognition (no setup); on Linux, or for the fully-local fallback, it's whisper.cpp. See Voice setup.

4. Security defaults

  • Containment cell on by default (The containment cell).
  • Assistant may run commands off by default — the assistant can type into a terminal but won't submit anything without your Enter.

Finish with a toast confirming you can change any of it later in Preferences.
