First run and onboarding
On first launch Tome walks you through a one-time setup wizard. Every step is
reachable later in Preferences (⌘,), and you can skip any of it.
Tome detects the agent CLIs you have installed (claude, opencode, pi) and shows them with a green dot. You can add a custom CLI here too — see Custom agents.
Pick the model the assistant uses. Tome reads the matching API key from your login shell — if it's missing you'll be shown which key to set. See Setting up an assistant provider.
Tome tests your microphone and reports the speech engine. On macOS this is Apple's on-device recognition (no setup); on Linux, or for the fully-local fallback, it's whisper.cpp. See Voice setup.
- Containment cell on by default (The containment cell).
- Assistant may run commands off by default — the assistant can type into a terminal but won't submit anything without your Enter.
Finish with a toast confirming you can change any of it later in Preferences.
