The assistant & conductor

The assistant is a chat pane that talks to the model provider you pick in Preferences. It's also a conductor: it can inspect and drive the workspace through tools.

What it can do

• List panes, open panes and files
• Read a terminal's scrollback — only for panes you approve; contained panes are never readable
• Type into a terminal — text is left for you to press Enter unless you turn on assistant may run commands
• Draft flows — shape a workflow graph by conversation (see Flows)

Guardrails

• Assistant may run commands is off by default. With it off, nothing is submitted without your Enter.
• Tool calls are audited; the loop is capped (8 tool turns per message).
• Read-terminal requests ask before the first read.

Voice

The assistant is also reachable hands-free — see Voice setup. Voice replies are spoken from the same text that lands in the transcript.
