- 3.8 release should happen roughly by May 31st (next week or so)
- 3.8 milestones listed here
-
4.0 may be later in the year, perhaps to coincide with MapServer 8.0 in early September
-
difficult to list all impacts of MapServer 8.0 just yet, but generally: security changes, new MapServer config file, OGCAPI
-
some are simple to deal with e.g. the end of 'DUMP TRUE'
-
others are still not fully settled e.g. the security topics
-
4.0 Could be focused around support for / transition to OGCAPI, if that seems appropriate
Things have been happening in the Freenode community, and the dust has not settled yet. With the future unclear, it seems we should keep an eye on how things evolve while keeping future options open.
Jeff has registered several channels on libera.chat, including #geomoose, which Jim can now access if it comes to it.
Separate from the freenode topic, we had a small conversation about other ways to communicate between meetings (outside of IRC, the email list, and GitHub issue conversations). Other projects are using platforms like Gitter (QGIS, OpenDroneMap, etc), or Slack. No real clear favorite for folks emerged, though duck is considering setting up a GM Slack to see if it ends up being of use.
For now, no major changes to the standard practice have been decided, so carry on as usual folks!
Duck expressed interest in more frequent PSC meetings, of shorter duration, so following this logic, we'll try to establish a new pattern of monthly meetings on 3rd Fridays @ 8am Pacific 10am Central, 12pm Atlantic
This makes the remaining 2021 meeting dates would tentatively be as follows:
Date | Topics to plan for |
---|---|
June 18th | ??? |
July 16th | ??? |
August 20th | Prepare for MapServer 8.0 release planned Sept 3rd |
September 17th | ??? |
October 15th | ??? |
November 19th | OSGeo typically would need 2022 budget submitted by early December |
December 17th | ??? |
Certain months may have to adjusted if major conflicts arise, but we will try to stick to this general idea...
