Release Notes

11th of November 1997 was a great day. This was the day when the first public release of X11Amp (later renamed to XMMS) was made. Now ten years later we celebrate this with a release of XMMS2.

XMMS2 0.4 DrKosmos contains the new official XMMS2 logo, a few new plugins such as a PulseAudio output plugin and lots of bugfixes. Hope you will have as much fun downloading, compiling and using it as we had making it.

Upgrading

Upgrading should be smoooooooth.

If you build from source and used the --with-python-archdir option, you have to use the environment variable 'PYTHONDIR' instead. Python interpreter can also be specified using the PYTHON environment variable. There also seems to be a bug in waf that makes it sometimes try to link against a installed version of libxmmsclient instead of the version built, so if you have an old version installed, uninstall that first.

Server now checks IPC protocol version. Old client library had a bug in this code, and crashes if server reports unsupported IPC protocol version.

Notes to client authors

• xmmsc_medialib_select is no more
• New method xmmsc_result_source_preference_get introduced.
• New method xmmsc_medialib_move_entry introduced.
• New method xmmsc_coll_sync introduced.

XMMS_PATH is now handled in the clientlib, passing NULL as path will use XMMS_PATH if set.

Notes to xform authors

• The methods xmms_xform_metadata_get_int/str now get value by reference and returns a boolean indicating if the datum did exist.
• The xmms_config_property_callback_remove method now expects a userdata arg, so the same callback as added with xmms_config_property_callback_set is removed.
