Specs

• iptables是用户空间的应用程序允许系统管理员配置linux内核防火墙提供的表(作为另外一个Netfilter modules实现)和表所存储的chains和rules.

• iptables -> IPv4, ip6tables -> IPv6, arptables -> ARP, ebtables -> Ethernet frames.

• iptables可以被安装到/usr/sbin/iptables或者/sbin/iptables, 由于iptables更像是一个服务, 而不是一个必要的二进制程序, 推荐的存放位置是 /usr/sbin.

• x_tables is the name of the kernel module carrying the shared code portion used by all four modules that also provides the API used for extensions.

• Xtable或多或少的用来指代整个防火墙架构(v4, v6, arp, eb).
