Player RpgDifficulty
RPG Difficulty (formerly the standalone RpgDifficulty mod) scales mob strength the longer a world survives and the farther/higher players explore, so the game gets progressively tougher instead of staying flat after early game.
Each mob's health, damage, and armor/protection factors increase based on, by default:
-
Distance from world spawn (
increasingDistanceblocks perdistanceFactorincrease) -
Time survived in the world (
increasingTimeminutes pertimeFactorincrease) -
Height above/below sea level (
heightDistanceblocks perheightFactorincrease, can apply both above and below)
These factors stack (up to configurable maximums) and apply separately per dimension if configured. An optional random swing (allowRandomValues) can nudge the final factor up or down for extra unpredictability.
Since RPG Difficulty is now part of the same jar as WandererZ, its WandererZ-aware scaling mode is always active: instead of (or in addition to) distance/time/height, nearby players' overall WandererZ level feeds into the same health/damage/protection factors via levelFactor and playerRadius. This replaces what used to be an optional "install both mods" behavior — see Developer: RPG Difficulty Integration for the technical detail.
If the third-party PlayerEx mod is installed, its attribute levels are used instead, including extra scaling for bosses and the Ender Dragon.
-
Bosses (anything tagged
#c:bosses, e.g. the Warden, plus the Wither/Ender Dragon via dedicated mixins) can scale further per nearby player (dynamicBossModification) with their own distance/time factors and a separate max cap. -
Special zombies: a configurable chance (
bigZombieChance) spawns oversized, slower, bonus-health/damage zombies, and a separate chance (speedZombieChance) spawns faster zombies with a health penalty. -
Extra XP and loot: stronger mobs can be configured to drop bonus XP (
extraXp, capped bymaxXPFactor) and have an extra chance to drop additional loot table rolls (dropMoreLoot, moreLootChance).
The RPG Difficulty config screen shows a small clock icon with the in-game time (in minutes) elapsed, since several settings are time-based — hover it for the exact value.
See Configuration for the full options table and Compatibility for the optional NamePlate/PlayerEx integrations.
