Performance and Settings

Farbound ships with a full optimization stack (Sodium, Lithium, ModernFix, C2ME, and many more) and is tuned to run well out of the box. A few options are left to you, because they depend on your hardware.

RAM

  • 8 GB minimum allocated to Minecraft.
  • 12 GB recommended if you enable Distant Horizons.
  • First launch is slow (mod setup, asset and shader compilation). That is normal and only happens once.

Optional Heavyweights

Two visually impressive mods ship disabled by default so the pack runs on modest hardware:

Mod What it does Cost
Distant Horizons Renders terrain all the way to the horizon (LOD). Spectacular from an airship. RAM hungry; allocate 12 GB+
Atmospherics Atmospheric visual mood Does not play well with shaders

Enable them via the pack's mod options if your machine can afford it. Farbound plays fine without both.

Shaders

Iris is included for shader support, with one important caveat:

⚠️ Create: Aeronautics has known rendering issues with Iris shaders. Moving contraptions (airships in flight) may render incorrectly with some shader packs. The pack includes Euphoria Patcher, which improves compatibility with Complementary-based shaders, but results vary. If your airship looks wrong in flight, try disabling shaders before reporting a bug.

If Performance Drops

  1. Check that Distant Horizons and Atmospherics are disabled (or lower the DH render distance).
  2. Disable shaders, especially around large moving contraptions.
  3. Lower simulation distance; physics contraptions are CPU intensive.
  4. Very large or numerous contraptions cost real performance. Elegant beats enormous.

Reporting Performance Issues

Please include your specs, allocated RAM, whether DH/shaders were active, and what contraptions were nearby. Report on the issue tracker.
