Virtual Servers and Instance

One TeamSpeak installation — the instance — can run several virtual servers, each with its own port, channels, groups and clients. Three admin-only pages deal with that structure: Virtual Servers (Overview) lists, starts, stops and creates them, Instance (System) shows and edits what is shared by all of them, and Advanced Settings (System) edits the settings of the one virtual server you have selected. The routine whole-server operations — a global message, snapshots, resetting permissions — are on Server Maintenance.

Some installations run only one virtual server — a licence can limit it to one — and the pages then simply show that one.

Virtual Servers

The page opens with four counters — Servers (online + offline), Autostarting, Slots (all virtual servers together) and Autostart Slots — and one card per virtual server:

  • the name, an ONLINE or OFFLINE badge, its SID (the virtual server ID that appears in the Query Console's use sid=…), its port and, while it runs, the users / slots and the uptime. Users are all connected clients without the ServerQuery connections, the same figure as on the Dashboard;
  • Select makes it the virtual server the rest of the app works on (the Dashboard, Channels, Clients and so on follow it); Deselect lets go again. The selected one is marked. The selection is also in the header.
  • Start and Stop. Stop does not ask for confirmation and disconnects everybody on that virtual server.

Create Server asks for a name, the number of slots (32 by default), optionally a port (empty means the first free one) and whether it should start together with the instance. The page has no delete button: removing a virtual server is a job for the Query Console (serverdelete, which the console treats as dangerous and asks you to confirm by name).

The Autostart Slots figure is left as "—" when TeamSpeak does not report the slots of a stopped autostart server, because a partial sum would be wrong.

Instance

The Instance page is the view from above:

Card Shows
Version TeamSpeak's version, build and platform.
Host The instance's uptime, the bytes sent and received since it started, and the clients online against the slots of all virtual servers.
Database The database plugin's version, the file-transfer port and the permissions version.
IP Bindings The addresses the instance listens on for voice, query and file transfer.

Instance Settings edits nine numbers; Save Changes writes only the ones you touched (a field you empty is left out, not cleared), and it does not ask; it stays disabled until a field holds a new number. They affect every virtual server:

  • Guest ServerQuery Group and the four Template … Group fields — which groups TeamSpeak uses as the blueprint when it creates a new virtual server, and as the guest group of ServerQuery logins.
  • File Transfer Port — the port that file transfers use. If you change it, the new port has to be open to the manager's backend too, or the Files page stops transferring.
  • Flood Commands, Flood Time (sec) and Flood Ban Time (sec) — the query flood limit: how many commands an address may send within that time before TeamSpeak bans it for the ban time. Every request the manager makes comes from the same address, so a limit that is too low can lock the whole app out; the Query Console keeps to half of it.

Advanced Settings

Advanced Settings edits the virtual server selected in the header, in four tabs. Every card has a Save button of its own and saves only the fields on that card. The values are read when the page opens; if someone changes them elsewhere meanwhile, reopen the page before you save.

Appearance

  • Welcome & Host Message: the Welcome Message shown to clients right after they connect; the Host Message and its mode — don't show, show in the chat log, show as a modal, or show as a modal and then quit.
  • Host Banner: a link URL, an image URL, the interval in seconds after which clients fetch the image again (the page calls it the rotation interval) and the display mode (no adjust, stretch ignoring the aspect ratio, keep the aspect ratio).
  • Host Button: the link opened on a click, an image URL and a tooltip.

Access & Groups

  • Default Groups: the default server group, the default channel group and the default channel admin group, chosen from the server's groups (with their icons). The default server group is the one every new client lands in; the default channel group is the one TeamSpeak does not record as an assignment (see Tips and Pitfalls).
  • Access & Security: the server password (leave it empty to keep the current one — the field cannot remove a password), the minimum identity security level a client needs to connect, the minimum desktop client version (Minimum Client Build), the reserved slots, Codec Encryption (per-channel setting, forced off or forced on) and whether the server is shown on the global weblist.

Moderation & Logging

  • Complaints: how many complaints get a client banned automatically, for how long (seconds), and after how long a complaint is forgotten. See Moderation.
  • Priority & Silence: how many clients must be in a channel before forced silence applies, and by how many dB a priority speaker lowers the others.
  • Anti-Flood: the points a client loses per tick for behaving, and the points at which TeamSpeak blocks its commands and, further up, its connections. These are the limits behind the flood protection that throttles a client's commands and refuses too many new connections from one address; for music bots see Music Bots.
  • Event Logging: six switches for what TeamSpeak writes into the server log: clients, ServerQuery clients, channels, permissions, server changes and file transfers. With Clients off the log shows no connects and disconnects.

File Transfer Limits

Per user: an upload quota and a download quota in MB, and an upload and download bandwidth in bytes per second. 0 means unlimited.
