FAQ & Troubleshooting

This page covers common Simple Mouse Cursor questions and basic troubleshooting.

If you still need help after trying the suggestions below, see the Support page.

Simple Mouse Cursor Does Not Appear

First, make sure Simple Mouse Cursor is enabled from the AddOns list on the World of Warcraft character-selection screen.

Then open the addon settings and check the following:

  • Show only in combat may be hiding the cursor while you are out of combat.
  • A modifier key assigned to Show Rings may have changed the cursor to a push-to-show setup.
  • Transparency may be set very low.
  • Your Inner, Main, and Outer Ring slots may all be set to None.
  • The reticle may be set to No Reticle.

If the addon was installed or updated while World of Warcraft was already running, try:

/reload

or restart the game.

How Do I Open the Settings?

Open World of Warcraft's Settings menu and select Simple Mouse Cursor from the AddOns section.

Simple Mouse Cursor does not currently use a slash command.

The Cursor Is Too Large or Too Small

Use Cursor Ring Scale to change the overall size of the Simple Mouse Cursor display.

If only the central reticle needs adjusting, use the reticle Size setting instead.

See Reticle & Appearance for more information.

The Cursor Is Hidden Behind My UI

Increase Frame Strata.

Higher Frame Strata settings place the Simple Mouse Cursor graphics above more parts of the World of Warcraft interface.

You normally only need to increase this if action bars, frames, or other addons are covering the cursor graphics.

The Cursor Is Covering Too Much of My UI

Try lowering Frame Strata so the cursor graphics sit behind more interface elements.

You can also reduce Transparency if the display feels too prominent.

My GCD Ring Does Not Appear

Make sure at least one ring position uses:

GCD

or:

Main Ring + GCD

The GCD indicator only appears while World of Warcraft's Global Cooldown is active, so it will normally disappear between ability uses.

My Cast Ring Does Not Appear

Make sure at least one ring position uses:

Cast

or:

Main Ring + Cast

The Cast indicator only appears while your character is actively casting or channelling an ability.

It disappears when the cast finishes, is cancelled, or is interrupted.

My Health or Power Ring Does Not Appear

Make sure one of your ring positions uses Health, Power, or Health and Power.

These indicators are only displayed when their corresponding ring option is assigned.

See Rings & Indicators for more information.

My Power Ring Is Always Blue

By default, the Power Ring uses its normal blue colour.

Enable:

Use Power Type Color for Power Ring

to make it match your character's current primary resource, such as Mana, Rage, Energy, or another power type.

Class Colours Are Not Showing

Simple Mouse Cursor has separate class-colour settings for the Reticle, Main Ring, Cast indicator, GCD indicator, and Cursor Trail.

Make sure the class-colour option for the specific element you want to change is enabled.

The Main Ring has one additional rule: its normal class colour is unavailable while Main Ring Pulse or Main Ring Rotation is active because those effects control the Main Ring's colour.

My Main Ring Class Colour Stopped Working

Check whether Main Ring Pulse or Main Ring Rotation is enabled.

Both effects use their own colours and therefore disable:

Use Class Color for Main Ring

Turn off Pulse and Rotation if you want the Main Ring to return to your character's class colour.

My Cursor Trail Is Missing

Make sure Enable Mouse Trail is turned on.

The trail only appears while:

  • the Simple Mouse Cursor display itself is visible; and
  • your mouse is moving.

If combat or modifier-key visibility settings are hiding the normal cursor graphics, the trail will be hidden as well.

The Cursor Trail Is Too Dense or Too Sparse

Adjust Trail Density.

Lower values create more trail points and therefore a denser trail.

Higher values create fewer trail points and therefore a sparser trail.

You can also adjust Trail Duration to control how long the trail remains visible and Trail Scale to change its size.

See Effects for more detail.

My Cursor Disappears Outside Combat

Check Show only in combat.

When enabled, Simple Mouse Cursor automatically hides the normal cursor graphics outside combat.

Also check your Shift, Ctrl, and Alt actions.

If one of them is assigned to Show Rings while combat-only visibility is disabled, Simple Mouse Cursor uses that modifier as a push-to-show control and hides the normal cursor graphics until the key is held.

See Visibility & Modifier Keys for examples.

My Modifier-Key Action Is Not Behaving as Expected

Check which action is assigned to the relevant Shift, Ctrl, or Alt setting.

The three Ping actions trigger once when the key is pressed.

Show Rings and Show Crosshair remain active for as long as the key is held.

If you are using Show Rings, remember that it can also change the normal cursor visibility into a push-to-show setup.

How Do I Disable the Reticle?

Set Change Reticle to:

No Reticle

This hides only the central reticle.

Your configured rings, indicators, trail, and other effects can still remain active.

How Do I Reset Simple Mouse Cursor?

Open the Simple Mouse Cursor settings and select:

Reset to Default Values

This restores the addon's original configuration and applies the defaults immediately.

A confirmation message will appear in chat after the reset.

Known Behaviour & Limitations

Main Ring Pulse and Main Ring Rotation cannot be used together. Enabling one disables the other.

Main Ring class colour is unavailable while Pulse or Rotation is active. Those effects control the Main Ring's colour themselves.

Using the same indicator in several ring positions is not recommended. Simple Mouse Cursor allows it, but the same underlying visual may be resized by more than one slot. For the clearest result, assign each indicator to one ring position or use one of the built-in combined options.

Simple Mouse Cursor currently has no slash commands; configuration is handled through World of Warcraft's AddOns settings.
