Chat
From 0.4.6, the community network has text chat, in the launcher and in the game's overlay. It's separate from the game's own chat: Global reaches everyone on the network, and messages reach friends on any server, from the launcher as well as in the game. It's on the community network only (scbl.jdevwebb.net): a server or network of your own has everything else, but not chat.
| Room | Who's in it | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Global | everyone on the community network, on every server | 7 days |
| Lobby | the players in your party or match | 2 hours |
| Messages | you and one friend, whatever server each of you is on | 30 days |
- Global needs your account to be linked to your identity (the launcher does that when you connect), and a new account can post there after 30 minutes signed in, or a match.
- Messages are between friends only. Add someone as a friend first (Friends and Invites).
- Lobby shows while you're in a party or a match.
The Chat page on the left: Global, with who's online beside it, Lobby while you're in one, and Messages, your conversations with unread counts and your friends to start one with. The rail shows how many direct messages and mentions you haven't seen, and the taskbar flashes for them when the launcher is behind other windows.
Press F5 (or your overlay key) › Chat: the same rooms, with a box to type in. The tab counts direct messages and mentions you haven't seen.
New messages pop up at the top right as Settings › Notifications says, for each room: Never, Only mentions, Outside matches or Always. Unless you change it, Global pops up outside matches, and Lobby and your friends always. Several messages close together show as one ("3 new messages").
Right-click the name:
- Add friend, Block, or (in the launcher, for a friend) Message.
- Report the message, with a reason: the network's admins see it, and what came before it.
- Delete a message of your own: it goes for everyone.
Type @name to mention someone: it's highlighted for them, and counts for Only mentions.
To invite someone into your match, use Online now on the launcher's Friends card, or the overlay's Find players.
-
No links, except a Discord invite on its own (
discord.gg/…): in Global, one every 10 minutes. The launcher asks before opening one, and says while you type when a link won't be sent. -
Slurs and hate are masked (
***). Swearing is fine. - Not too fast: 5 messages in 10 seconds, 30 a minute, and not the same message twice within 30 seconds.
- Messages are kept for the times above, and the network's admins can read them. They act on reports: deleting a message, muting someone in a room or everywhere (for a time or for good), or a ban. Nothing is muted automatically. A muted player is told when they try to post.
- Blocking someone hides their messages from you everywhere, and stops their messages to you.
| It says | Why |
|---|---|
| That message wasn't sent: links aren't allowed in chat (a Discord invite is). | Take the link out (a Discord invite on its own is fine) |
| New accounts can post in Global after 30 minutes signed in, or a match: <n> more minutes. | Play a while first; Lobby and Messages work straight away |
| Slow down: try again in <n> s. | Too many messages in a short time |
| You just sent that. | The same message again within 30 seconds |
| You've been muted. (or for <n> more minutes) | The admins muted you, in that room or everywhere |
| Chat isn't open on this server. | Your server isn't on the community network, or it's still starting |
More, for those who run servers: Chat in the docs.
