Files and Folders

Where 5th Echelon keeps everything, and how to undo it.

The launcher's folder

Windows %APPDATA%\5th-Echelon\ (paste it into File Explorer's address bar)
Linux ~/.config/5th-Echelon/
File What it is
launcher.toml The launcher's own settings: the game folder, the server list, recent servers, display size, your feedback choices
identity.key Your identity. On Windows it's encrypted for your Windows user
identity.<id>.key An identity replaced by an import, kept just in case
launcher.log, launcher.prev.log The launcher's logs
Saves\ (Windows) Your save game: 00000001.sav and its backups (*.bak)

launcher.exe itself can live anywhere; it doesn't install itself.

The game folder

The folder with the game's .exe, usually …\Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM. Settings › Game › Open folder opens it.

File What it is
uplay_r1_loader.dll The 5th Echelon client (it replaces the game's own)
uplay_r1_loader.orig.dll The game's own DLL, kept so you can undo the install
uplay.toml The game's 5th Echelon settings: server, accounts (passwords encrypted on Windows), network, switches
uplay.toml.old An older launcher's settings, set aside (Coming from 5th Echelon)
uplay.toml.broken A settings file that couldn't be read, kept instead of being thrown away
uplay.override.toml Settings written by another tool that manages the install (the launcher never writes it)
bl-tracing.log The client's log of the last game. Include it when asking for help
bl-tracing.prev.log The game before that
5th-echelon-known-friends.json Your friends' identities, so the overlay can warn about lookalike names
5th-echelon-addresses.json Written by Try to identify, for an unrecognised game version. (Launchers before 0.4.5 also left a copy of the built-in addresses next to launcher.exe, on the desktop or in Downloads: 0.4.5 deletes those copies, and leaves alone and never uses any other file of that name there)
bl-dataversion.txt Only if turned on in Settings › Advanced

Saves

Windows %APPDATA%\5th-Echelon\Saves\
Steam on Linux / Steam Deck <Steam library>/steamapps/compatdata/235600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/5th-Echelon/Saves/

See Save Games.

Undoing the install

Settings › 5th Echelon client › Uninstall… puts the game's own DLL back, after asking. The game then plays as it did before, and won't connect to 5th Echelon servers.

Uninstall changes only the DLL: your settings, accounts, saves and identity stay on the PC, so Install brings it all back. To remove everything:

  1. Uninstall… as above (or copy uplay_r1_loader.orig.dll over uplay_r1_loader.dll by hand).
  2. Delete the 5th Echelon files from the game folder: uplay.toml (and .old, .broken), bl-tracing*.log, and the 5th-echelon-*.json files.
  3. Delete launcher.exe.
  4. Optionally, delete the launcher's folder. This deletes your identity and, on Windows, your saves: copy them somewhere first if you might come back.

Verifying the game's files in Steam or Ubisoft Connect also restores the original DLL.
