Feedback - 15 March 2024

Gathered from Game Studio II, Week 8 - Class 16 and from Damian & David at Liminal VR

Gameplay

  • The tutorial/instructions should appear before the player rather than off to the side
  • Instructions should be more concise and could use some visual icons
  • 180 action rather than 360 action -> having to spin around kind of puts a damper on the gameplay
  • The objects in the scene are too big -> hammers and croc shouldn't fill the entire screen
  • Get rid of the end experience (the ending will be handled by liminal)
  • Get rid of the replay thing -> the round should have a longer duration and only be one round
  • Animate the crocs
  • Have the crocs pop up from something rather than just appearing in the air
  • Hit animation for the crocs
  • Some vfx for when the croc is hit -> smoke or confetti or something
  • The crocs are too far from the player

Environment/Art

  • Environment feels too big
  • "Constant white flashing wireframe in the environment
  • Environment feels a bit bare bones -> needs more detail and possibly stylization
  • Lighting needs improvement -> there are jagged shadows and the lighting could more moody and atmospheric overall (might be good to find and reference a specific pirate captain's cabin as much as possible)
  • The environment looks too smooth -> could use some texture (wood or etc), more props on the wall
  • Croc costumes

Audio

  • Needs environment audio -> creaking wood of ship, ocean noise, various ship sounds)
  • The hit-croc sound (the bonk) is underwhelming and delayed from the impact
  • Needs a start game sound -> a bell ringing or canon firing
  • Needs an end game sound -> "fireworks, explosions, whatever"
  • The "Canon's Roar Experience" is a good touchstone for these things
  • The bonk sound isn't great -> the "doonk" sounding piece of it is nice, but a "smack" sound would also be nice; having some variation in that sound would be nice; it would be nice if that sound was weighty-er
