Critique and Feedback

Gathered from Game Studio II, Week 12 - Class 24 and from Damian & David at Liminal VR

Art

  • Hammer scale is better, could be a little smaller though
  • Croc animation is good!
  • Adds vfx for when the crocs spawn and get hit
  • Environment visuals still need work (eg. scale, lighting, texturing, water, sky etc).
  • The crocs need to spawn from something rather than just appearing out of thin air. Their comments were:
    • "In general I also have an issue with the crocs just appearing floating out of nowhere. It's probably too late / too much work at this point, but it'd be really nice if the environment & crocs appearing were more connected. It would require an entire restructuring of the environment, but eg. something like you're sitting at a captains table and the crocs are appearing from all various locations around you (180), like come up through the table, or behind other objects, or from out of the windows etc."
    • "The simpler alternative to the above would be to have the captain table or map table or something in front of you that they are appearing out of, instead of just floating."
  • Have the scene get more chaotic with movement and animations as the gameplay progresses
  • Smaller scale for the scene

Programming and Design

  • The animations need to be implemented
  • Crocs should be directly in front so the player doesn't have to turn
  • More positive text on the end UI (ie. "Congrats!") and also include the final score.
  • Have the crocs disappear after a certain amount of time so that they don't just sit there waiting to be hit.
    • Them not doing that kind of deprives the game of the franticness that wack-a-mole in theory has.
  • Crocs need to be a bit smaller so they are harder to hit
  • Remove the pointer from the controller and recticle
  • Make sure the gameplay -> playtesting
  • Have game get more difficult as the gameplay progresses

Sound

  • Possible de-spawn/going down sfx
  • Sound FX for background animation and movement -> little sword battle, canon fires
