The Difficulty System provides multiple challenge levels catering to different player preferences with adjusted enemy strength, penalties, and rewards.
- Casual Mode: Reduced enemy strength, forgiving penalties, story focus
- Normal Mode: Balanced challenge, moderate penalties, standard progression
- Hard Mode: Increased enemy strength, harsher penalties, bonus rewards
- Nightmare Mode: Significantly tougher enemies, permadeath, substantial rewards
- Apocalypse Mode: Maximum challenge, permadeath, time pressure, legendary rewards
- Enemy Scaling: Enemy strength multipliers per difficulty
- Death Penalties: Vary from no penalty (Casual) to permanent (Nightmare/Apocalypse)
- Reward Scaling: Higher difficulties grant increased XP/gold/loot
- Time Pressure: Apocalypse mode features countdown timer with quest extensions
- Player Choice: Select challenge level matching skill/preference
- Risk vs Reward: Higher difficulties grant better rewards
- Accessibility: Casual mode ensures all players can experience story
