A highly customizable Material 3 / Material You desktop shell for Hyprland, powered by Quickshell.
ii-p3drovfx is a heavily customized evolution of ii-vynx, which itself is based on illogical-impulse. It expands the original shell with new desktop tools, redesigned interfaces, deeper customization, productivity features and tighter system integration — while keeping Material 3 as its visual language.
New here? The Getting Started page covers installation, your first ten minutes, and how to turn on each major feature.
Rather than being a collection of widgets, ii-p3drovfx aims to make the shell itself a complete desktop environment layer — many things that would normally need separate applications live directly inside the Quickshell interface.
The central control surface: paginated and editable Quick Toggle pages (Classic or Android-style layouts), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and audio controls, Night Light, Dark Mode, LocalSend, VPN, Tailscale, DNS over TLS, notifications, and Calendar / To-Do (with TickTick sync) / Timer widgets — all in one Material surface with inline system dialogs.
Select a region, right-click, and annotate right there on the frozen frame: shapes, arrows, highlighter, text, numbered badges, blur and pixelation — with undo/redo, HiDPI-correct export, OCR text extraction, reverse image search and a Pixel-style preview overlay. No external editor required (but supported if you want one).
Screen recording ends with a friendly "edit it?" prompt: preview, trim, crop (with aspect presets), compress with a live size estimate, then save a copy or safely replace the original — FFmpeg under the hood, Material 3 on top. Drag any video in and it doubles as a general quick-edit tool.
The Settings app exposes a huge portion of the shell: Material You palettes from your wallpaper, light/dark schedules, transparency and blur, animation speed, typography roles, themed icons, bar layouts and Dynamic Island variants, sidebar layouts, desktop widgets, and full-setup Presets you can export and share. Most components re-theme themselves automatically when your palette changes.

Widgets live directly on the wallpaper: dozens of clocks, media players, weather cards, calendars, photos, device batteries, system controls and utilities — draggable, snappable, theme-aware, monitor-aware and lock-screen-aware. A Widget Extension system installs third-party widgets straight from GitHub.

A notes app inside the shell: a block editor with headings, lists, code, tables, pictures, files, link cards and wikilinks; drawing on the page; templates, revisions, reminders and locked notes; Markdown / HTML / PDF export, Google Keep import and a Google Drive backup; and an AI assistant that can rewrite a selection or write into the note.
Three shells in one: the desktop illogical-impulse family, Waffle, and a touch-first Tablet family with a home screen, an Android-style dock and app drawer, recents, edge gestures, a pen mode, drawing on screen, and a hub mode that turns it into a clock and now-playing display while it charges.
The interconnected modules that complete the desktop:
- Bar & Dynamic Island — modular bar layouts and styles, plus a floating Dynamic Island activity hub for media, notifications, transfers, AI agents and live progress
- Launcher & Search — apps, prefix-less math and unit conversion, clipboard, emoji, files, windows, downloads and confirmable power actions from one search field
- Overview & Workspaces — visual workspace management, Workspace Profiles, the Workspace Compactor and multi-monitor Workspace Maps
- Wallpaper System — parallax, transitions, video and Wallpaper Engine backgrounds
- Media Mode — a full-screen now-playing surface with synced lyrics, an immersive layout, a built-in local music player and music-video backdrops
- Typing Test — a Monkeytype-style test inside the launcher, with a finger guide and Vial keyboard support
- Notifications — the shell is the notification daemon: popups, history, DND and lock-screen privacy rules
- Screen Capture & Recording — wf-recorder or OBS backends, region + audio capture, pause/resume
- Phone Integration — KDE Connect, scrcpy App Mode, phone-as-webcam/mic, contacts
- Modes & Routines — named setups that apply a bundle of settings and put them back, plus if-this-then-that routines driven by schedules, apps, games, battery, networks and devices
- AI Integration — a built-in assistant with multiple providers, local models, tools that can edit your config, and a usage dashboard
- System Integration — audio, networking, Bluetooth, power, displays, polkit and everything else the shell wires into
- Clock App — alarms that wake the machine, timers, stopwatch, world clocks, Pomodoro, bedtime and reminders
- Calendar and Timetable — month and week views backed by khal / vdirsyncer, with Google and Outlook import
- Gmail Integration and Rclone and Google Drive — mail and Drive inside the shell
- Game Overlay — Super + G overlay with crosshair, FPS limiter, performance HUD, Discord voice and Full Game Mode
- Tiling and Window Switcher — snap zones for floating windows and a searchable Alt + Tab

ii-p3drovfx is an actively developed personal project. It contains experimental features and large deviations from upstream ii-vynx and illogical-impulse; new functionality can change quickly, and some integrations need extra packages, system configuration or API credentials — the Known Issues page keeps track.
If you hit a problem specific to ii-p3drovfx, please open an issue in this repository rather than reporting it to the upstream projects.
ii-p3drovfx would not exist without the projects it builds upon:
- end-4 / illogical-impulse — original project and foundation
- vaguesyntax / ii-vynx — the project ii-p3drovfx was expanded from
- Quickshell — the Qt Quick shell framework
- Hyprland — the Wayland compositor
Additional contributors and inspirations are credited in the repository README.
