Launcher and Search
Tap Super, start typing. The launcher in ii-p3drovfx is a full command surface for the desktop: apps, files, windows, math, unit conversion, clipboard history, emoji, translations, downloads, system power actions — all from one search field, most of it without even needing a prefix.
In Connect mode the search interface lives inside the Dynamic Island; otherwise it shares its surface with the Overview, with the workspace view gracefully stepping aside as you type.
- Tap Super, type the first letters of an app, Enter. That's the core loop.
- Type
sqrt(2)*100— then try120 usd to eur. Live results, no prefix. - Type
reboot— note how the first Enter asks "Are you sure?" instead of firing. - Press Super + V — the clipboard manager, with image previews and smart per-type actions.
- Type
!and paste a video URL — a full yt-dlp download manager appears.
The rest of this page is the map of everything else it can do.
- Apps — fuzzy-searched from your desktop entries, with optional frecency ranking (frequently + recently used apps first), sloppy-match and Levenshtein options for the typo-prone, and a pinned-apps grid.
-
Math, no prefix needed — type
2*(3+4),sqrt(2),sin(45)and the result appears live in the preview. Simple arithmetic is evaluated instantly in-shell; anything fancier goes through qalc, which also unlocks unit and currency conversion:120 usd to eur,50c to f,3 miles in km. - Web search — anything else falls through to your configured engine (Google by default, base URL configurable, with a site-exclusion list).
- Aliases — define your own shortcuts that expand into commands or searches.
Type lock, suspend, reboot, poweroff or restart (Quickshell) and the matching power action appears. Critical ones don't fire blindly: the first Enter turns the entry into "Reboot PC (Are you sure?)" and only a second Enter/click executes — typing anything else or moving away cancels. Fewer accidental shutdowns, zero extra dialogs.

Ask the [[AI assistant |
A "default actions" row can also surface the common modes without remembering any of this. The AI can also be reached without its prefix: Config.options.search.ai.trigger is suggest by default (an Ask AI row under the results), or auto (switch to the chat when nothing else matches), or prefix only.
Small shell verbs, typed: /dark and /light switch the color scheme, /accentcolor sets an accent, /wallpaper and /konachanwallpaper change the background, /todo adds a task, /settings opens Settings, /wipeclipboard clears clipboard history, /superpaste 4i pastes your last 4 clipboard images in one go, /genius fetches lyrics, /songrec starts music recognition… and you can extend the list with your own user action scripts.
Several prefixes open full panels rather than a result list:
-
Clipboard (
;, or Super+V directly) — a two-pane clipboard manager with image previews, metadata, and smart detectors that recognize hex colors, URLs, emails, phone numbers, JSON, file paths, markdown and more, offering per-type actions. Panel width, column ratio, preview sizes — all configurable. -
Emoji (
:, or Super+.) — searchable emoji picker. -
Material Symbols (
*) — the entire Material icon set, searchable. -
Bluetooth (
<) — device list and connection management inline. -
Translator (
@) — live translation as you type. -
Media downloader (
!) — paste a URL and download via yt-dlp, with format/resolution/codec selection, concurrent download limits, metadata embedding, thumbnails, chapters, optional aria2c, proxy and rate-limit support. A proper download manager hiding behind an exclamation mark. -
File search (
,) — results under your configured directory (default/home), with an option to blur file preview thumbnails (for those streaming or presenting).
Beyond the prefix panels, Search carries a set of Raycast-style tools. Each one is a switch under Settings → Launcher → Search modules, and their results rank directly under Applications by default:
- Calendar (off by default; khal, Google or both), Tasks (type a task and Ctrl + N creates it) and Timers — countdowns, Pomodoro, stopwatch and alarms.
- Window management — tiling presets, and moving the window that opened Search to another workspace or monitor.
- Screenshots (browse the clipboard's images), Quick toggles (matching system toggles among ordinary results), Settings in Search (type dark mode or night light and change it right there), Keybinds (Hyprland's shortcuts plus the custom keybind pages kept in the Cheat Sheet), Commands (Super + Alt + C opens them directly), Gmail, Today's games (off by default), Modes & routines, and Tools & Generators (uuid, password, lorem, base64, json…, executed and copied locally).
- Quicklinks and Text snippets — aliases that open or copy URLs, and reusable text with clipboard and date tokens; each has its own card under Settings → Launcher.
- Browser sites — bookmarks and history from your Firefox profile, matched without a prefix.
- Calculator — beyond arithmetic: conversions, percentages and dates, exchange rates refreshed daily, and a history listed by typing the math prefix alone.
-
File content search (
') — streamed from ripgrep and capped so it never runs away. - Quit process — force-quit running apps per PID, with a confirmation and a quit all row.
- GIFs — a search panel backed by KLIPY (Tenor's API shut down), with a content filter; it asks for a free app key the first time and keeps it in the keyring.
- Fix grammar — corrects the selected text through a single-turn AI task.
- Fonts — every installed family drawn in its own face.
- Send files to phone — file results get KDE Connect and LocalSend actions (Ctrl + K) when a device is available.
-
Typing test (
^) — a Monkeytype-style test with its own page: Typing test.
% (or search speed) opens an internet speed test against Cloudflare's edge: latency and jitter first, then download, upload or both over 5, 10 or 15 seconds, shown in Mbps or MB/s. Inside the panel, Space/Enter starts or stops it, R runs it again, M cycles download/upload/both, U switches the unit and 1/2/3 pick the length; the choices are remembered in Config.options.search.speedTest.
Any result — an app, a link, a file, a folder, a panel, a setting — can get its own shortcut or alias. Select it, press Ctrl + K for More actions, choose Add keybind and press a letter: from then on Ctrl + letter opens that result from the plain Search field (never inside a panel). Ctrl + K, Ctrl + P, the text-editing letters (A, C, V, X, Z) and any letter Search's own shortcuts use stay reserved. Add alias works the same way with a single word you type instead. Both lists can be reviewed and removed under Settings → Launcher → Aliases.
Type to search (Settings → Launcher → Type to search, Config.options.launcher.typeToSearch, off by default): with nothing on screen to type into, the first printable key opens the launcher with that character already in the field, the way KRunner does. It only arms while no window has keyboard focus and no shell panel is open, so it never takes a key meant for an app.
- When it listens — Empty workspace (the default: only while the workspace holds no windows at all) or Nothing focused (also after clicking the desktop next to an open window).
- Keys that open it — Letters, Letters & digits or Everything printable (the default). Digits are bound unshifted, so on AZERTY the number row is only covered by the last option.
A launcher opened this way closes itself again when the query is deleted; one opened from the shortcut behaves as before.
An optional suggestions panel greets you before you type: frecent apps, aliases, and (optionally) recent commands, with a per-section limit. There's also an optional now-playing bubble showing the current track right in the search surface.
The search window's base width/height, vertical position (and a centered position style) are configurable, and results outside the app list can be slightly delayed (nonAppResultDelay) to keep app matching instant. In Connect mode the search lives inside the island; in default mode it's its own surface above the Overview. Setting the Overview's animation style to None (Settings → Overview → Disable all animations) opens Search instantly too, with its result and panel animations switched off.
Circle to Search: the Region Selector's image-search action feeds the configured reverse-image-search engine (Google Lens by default) — with the circular gesture selection enabled by default.
Configuration lives in Settings → Launcher (behavior, prefixes, suggestions, clipboard panel, file search) with persistent options under Config.options.search and pinned apps under Config.options.launcher.
