Keybinds

Keybinds

The fastest way to learn the keybinds is inside the shell itself: press Super + / to open the Cheat Sheet — its keybind view is generated live from the actual Hyprland configuration, so it's never out of date. This page covers the defaults and how the system works.

How keybinds are defined

ii-p3drovfx uses Hyprland's native Lua configuration: the entry point is ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.lua, and keybinds live in ~/.config/hypr/hyprland/keybinds.lua, declared through Hyprland's built-in hl API:

hl.bind("SUPER + Tab", hl.dsp.global("quickshell:overviewWorkspacesToggle"),
    { description = "Shell: Toggle overview" })

Each bind can carry a description — that's what the Cheat Sheet displays. Many shell binds come in pairs: a Quickshell global shortcut plus a fallback command (fuzzel, hyprshot, grim…) that runs when the shell isn't alive, so core actions keep working even if Quickshell is down.

To customize: don't edit hyprland/keybinds.lua (updates will overwrite it). Put your own binds in ~/.config/hypr/custom/keybinds.lua — it's loaded automatically after the defaults, along with custom/variables.lua, custom/general.lua, custom/rules.lua, custom/execs.lua and custom/env.lua.

Or don't touch a file at all: Settings → Hyprland → Shortcuts lists every bind on the system, says which file each one came from, and can change any of them — including the stock ones — writing the result into custom/keybinds.lua for you. See Hyprland Settings.

Requires Hyprland 0.56.1+ (the Lua config system is native Hyprland).

Extras worth knowing

  • Virtual machine submap — Super + Alt + F1 disables all keybinds (so a VM can have them) and re-enables on the same combo.
  • AI text summary — Super + Shift + Alt + right-click summarizes the selected text via a local Ollama model.
  • Number keys use raw keycodes, so workspace switching works on any keyboard layout (AZERTY included).
  • In-app shortcuts (screenshot editor undo/redo, Dashboard tab cycling, profile restore, the Notes editor, the Typing test…) are documented on each feature's page.
  • The Tablet family registers extra global shortcuts you can bind yourself — appDrawerToggle, recentsToggle — and the Notes app registers notesToggle, notesOpen and notesClose.
  • Inside Search, Ctrl + K on a result lets you give it a Ctrl + letter keybind or an alias — see Launcher & Search.
