Known Issues

The honest page. ii-p3drovfx is an actively developed personal project with experimental features — here's what currently bites, what's a deliberate trade-off, and what to check before reporting a bug.

Found something new? Please open an issue in this repository — not in upstream ii-vynx or illogical-impulse, since this fork diverges heavily from both.

Requirements to double-check first

A surprising number of "bugs" are version mismatches:

  • Hyprland ≥ 0.56.1 — the Lua configuration system and several compositor interactions need it.
  • Matugen ≥ 4.1.0 — the color pipeline targets Matugen 4; a compatibility fallback keeps Matugen 3 limping along for the lightweight scheme-switching path, but 4.1+ is the supported version. (On Fedora the installer pulls Matugen from the avengemedia/danklinux COPR because Fedora's own package is a 3.x.)
  • Hyprland updates occasionally break screencopy-based previews (dock/overview) until the shell adapts — it has happened before (#64, fixed).

Deliberate trade-offs & rough edges

  • Manual API setup — Gmail and TickTick integrations require creating your own API credentials (Google Cloud project / TickTick developer app). The shell guides you through it, but there's no way around the per-user keys.
  • Reverse image search uploads your screenshot to a public hosting endpoint before searching — that's how it has to work. Think before lensing sensitive content.
  • Themed icons are experimental — recoloring an entire icon theme is inherently hacky; expect occasional oddities after theme switches.
  • Waffle is WIP — the Windows-style panel family is a fun work in progress, not a finished product. Expect missing pieces.
  • wf-recorder "pause" freezes the process (SIGSTOP), so the paused span appears as a still frame in the video rather than being cut out. Trim it in the Video Editor afterward.
  • OBS + Wayland portals — the first OBS recording may wait on the portal's source-picker dialog. The shell waits patiently instead of failing, but it can look like a hang until you approve the dialog.
  • scrcpy screen-off on Samsung adds noticeable input latency (the touch sampling rate drops) — that's why it defaults off.
  • Heavy blur + transparency costs real GPU and battery, especially on laptops. If your fans spin, that slider is the first suspect.
  • Music Video background depends on yt-dlp and mpvpaper, and on YouTube search finding the right video — occasionally you'll get a lyric video or something stranger.

Updating safely

The built-in updater (Settings → About & Updates) can switch sources and update the fork in place — but doing so replaces the shell directory (~/.config/quickshell/ii/) wholesale. Anything you personally added there and didn't commit anywhere (custom scripts, experiments, untracked files) will be lost.

  • Keep Hyprland customizations in ~/.config/hypr/custom/ — always preserved.
  • Your settings are safe: ~/.config/illogical-impulse/ (config, presets, profiles) is not touched.
  • Custom desktop widgets installed as extensions live in user_widgets/ — prefer the extension mechanism over editing shell files directly.
  • If you hack on the shell itself, keep your changes in a git branch or fork.

Diagnosing problems

  • The repo ships a diagnose helper for environment checks.
  • qs log -c ii shows the live shell log (qs list --all to find instances).
  • The Settings config health banner tells you if your config.json was malformed, migrated or repaired — worth a glance before blaming a feature.
  • Restart the shell cleanly with Ctrl + Super + R.
