Quick answers to the most common questions. New to the mod? Start with Getting Started.
Where do I find fairies in the world? You don't — there are no wild fairies. You earn them by crafting a scroll, connecting it, and attuning. It's a goal you work toward, not a mob you catch.
How do I get pixie dust? Harvest living nature: flowers drop it ~10% of the time, and grass/ferns/leaves ~4%. A Wandering Trader also sells it (and blank scrolls) for emeralds. It never comes from mining.
I right-clicked my scroll and nothing happened. How do I use it? A fresh scroll is inert — it must be connected first. Place it in a Connection Table and wait until its tooltip reads Connected ✦, then hold it and hold right-click to attune.
My scroll vanished when I attuned! Is that a bug? No — attuning consumes the scroll (like using up a crystal). In exchange, the fairy is bonded to you permanently.
Can I have more than one fairy at once? You wield one at a time. But each fairy remembers its own Magic, so you can build a collection and swap between them without losing progress. See Swapping Fairies.
Do I lose my fairy when I die? No. Your equipped fairy — and every fairy's Magic — survives death. You'll never lose progress to a bad fall.
How do I switch to a different fairy? Attune a different connected scroll. There's a ~30-second cooldown after a swap, and you can't attune while in combat.
It says I can't attune. Why? Either you're in combat (wait a few seconds), you're on the swap cooldown, or the fairy is disabled in the server/pack config.
Why isn't my fairy gaining Magic / leveling up? It's probably sulking — you're somewhere it dislikes, which stops growth entirely. Open your inventory to see the status chip; if it says ✦ Sulking, move somewhere your fairy thrives. It may also just be settling for ~20s right after a swap. See Attunement & Progression.
How do I level up faster? Live where your fairy thrives — that triples Magic gain. To skip the grind entirely, craft Concentrated Pixie Energy (diamonds + pixie dust) to jump a fairy straight to Tier V.
How long does connecting a scroll take? About 3 in-game days at a bare table. Build a shrine of the right blocks around it to reach up to 6× speed (~10 minutes). See The Connection Table.
What's the ability key, and why doesn't my fairy have one? Active abilities fire on G (rebindable in Options → Controls) and unlock at Tier III. Below that, your fairy only has passives. Full list: Abilities by Tier.
My ability isn't working right after I attuned. The fairy is settling (~20s after equipping). Give it a moment.
Ore Sense doesn't show ores buried in stone. That's by design — it highlights exposed ores in cave walls, not an x-ray through solid rock.
The Cogmite light isn't showing. It only appears underground / in caves (when it's dark), and only from Cogmite Tier I onward. It won't light up in daylight.
Is there an in-game guide? Yes — craft a Fairy Codex (a book + 2 pixie dust) for a page on every fairy.
Does it work on servers / in multiplayer? Yes. Gameplay is server-authoritative, and the config is synced to clients on join. Every player needs the mod (and Fabric API) installed.
Do I need Fabric API? Yes — it's required. The game won't launch without it.
What versions are supported? Fabric for Minecraft 26.2 right now. A NeoForge 1.21.1 version is planned.
Can I put it in a modpack? Yes. The license is All Rights Reserved but explicitly permits unmodified modpack inclusion on platforms like CurseForge and Modrinth.
Can I change drop rates, cooldowns, or disable a fairy?
Almost everything is tunable in config/fairytales.json — progression, cooldowns, connection time, feature toggles, and per-fairy enable. See Configuration.
I changed the config but nothing changed in-game. Restart (or rejoin) to apply. On a server, the server's config wins for everyone.
