Swapping Fairies

🔄 Swapping Fairies

You wield one fairy at a time. You can change which one — but by design, swapping carries weight. It's a deliberate choice, not something you flip mid-fight.

How to Swap

Swapping is just attuning a different fairy: hold a Connected ✦ scroll of the fairy you want and hold right-click to attune it, exactly like your first time (see Attunement & Progression). Your old fairy steps aside and the new one takes hold.

You can't re-attune the fairy you're already wearing — it'll just tell you you're already blessed by it.

The Weight of Swapping

Four frictions make swapping meaningful:

  1. A connected scroll is consumed. Every attune spends a fully-connected scroll of that fairy — and connecting one takes time and resources (The Connection Table).
  2. ~30-second swap cooldown. After equipping a fairy, you must wait before you can switch to another.
  3. ~20-second settling. The newly-equipped fairy's abilities stay dormant while it settles in.
  4. No combat swaps. You can't attune while you've recently been fighting.

Together these mean you commit to a fairy for a stretch of play, rather than hot-swapping the perfect tool for every situation.

Your Fairies Remember

Here's the payoff: each fairy keeps its own Magic independently.

Level your Emberwisp to Tier V, switch to a fresh Brambleknot, and later come back to Emberwisp — it's still Tier V. Swapping never resets progress; a fairy simply picks up where you left it.

So over time you can build a stable of fairies at different tiers and rotate between them for different jobs — an Emberwisp for mining trips, a Rimebell for ocean crossings, a Cogmite for redstone builds. The only price to re-equip one is a fresh connected scroll and the timers above.

Practical Tips

  • Keep spare connected scrolls of your go-to fairies so a swap is ready when you need it — a well-built Connection Table shrine can churn them out quickly.
  • Plan around the settling delay. Swap before you head into a situation, not during it, so your abilities are live when you arrive.
  • Dying is safe. Your equipped fairy (and every fairy's Magic) survives death — you'll never lose progress to a bad fall.

Notes

  • The swap cooldown, settling time, and combat lock are all adjustable in Configuration — a server or modpack can loosen or tighten how deliberate swapping feels.
