Granthalay Wiki

Granthalay is a private, local-first EPUB library and reader built with SvelteKit and Svelte 5. Imported books are parsed and stored in your browser; the current application has no account, server-side library, or reading telemetry.

The reader supports responsive pagination, reading preferences, internal EPUB links, and device-local bookmarks and text highlights. These features continue to work without an account or application backend.

Current status

Granthalay currently runs as a browser-only static application. It will remain an installable PWA deployed to GitHub Pages while a separately hosted modular backend adds optional accounts and a commercial bookstore. Both artifacts are developed in this repository, and anonymous local reading remains independent of the backend. That future architecture is planned, not implemented.

Canonical documentation

This Wiki is the readable, discoverable edition of Granthalay's documentation. The versioned source in the repository's docs/ directory is canonical and changes through pull requests.
