Troubleshooting

My library is empty

Use the same browser profile and exact site origin as before. Changing http to https, host, port, browser profile, or private-browsing mode can expose a separate empty storage area. Clearing site data permanently removes the local library.

A book will not import or open

Confirm the filename ends in .epub and that it is a valid, non-DRM EPUB. Try a known-good public-domain publication. Browser developer tools may show ZIP, container, OPF, or parsing errors.

Images or layout look wrong

Review Compatibility. Complex CSS, fixed layouts, encrypted fonts, and unsupported publication features can behave differently. Report a minimal legal reproduction rather than the full book.

Resume opens on an unexpected page

Pagination depends on the viewport and measured content. Resizing or rotating can alter page counts. Clearing site data resets saved positions.

A highlight is missing or opens near the wrong passage

Use the same browser profile and site origin where the highlight was created. Granthalay restores highlights by matching the selected quote and nearby context; a substantially different edition may no longer contain that text. The annotation remains under Reader settings → Annotations so it can be reviewed or removed. Clearing site data or deleting the imported book removes its annotations.

Installation or offline mode fails

Use HTTPS (localhost is the development exception), inspect manifest and service-worker errors, and reload after deployment. Confirm the build used the intended base path. Clear only Cache Storage—not all site data—if preserving books matters.

Development checks fail

Run bun install --frozen-lockfile, bun run check, bun run lint, and bun run build. The CI workflow is the authoritative merge check.
