Text-heavy books use horizontal columns. Books detected as illustrated use a fitted spine item per screen. Layout selection is currently heuristic, so unusual books may choose the wrong mode.
Granthalay calculates whole-book progress after measuring the laid-out chapters. The total can take a moment to settle and may change after resizing the window or rotating the device.
Reading position is saved automatically. The theme follows your operating-system preference on first use and can then be changed in the application.
Open Reader appearance to customize font size, line height, margins, alignment, theme, and LTR, RTL, or scrolling navigation for the current book. Typography overrides apply to reflowable text; covers and image-sensitive pages retain their publisher layout. Per-book settings remain in this browser and can be reset to the global defaults configured from the library.
- Use the bookmark button in the reader header to save or remove the current location.
- Select text in the reading area, then choose the contextual Highlight action beside the selection.
- Use the annotation list in that tab to revisit or remove saved bookmarks and highlights.
Bookmarks use the chapter and a normalized position rather than a rendered page number. Highlights store the selected quote, nearby context, and a normalized fallback position. This lets annotations survive reloads and ordinary repagination caused by changes to the viewport or reading appearance. If highlighted text can no longer be found in the publication, Granthalay does not silently attach the record to unrelated text; the saved item remains available for removal.
Annotations are stored only in this browser. They are not synchronized or sent to diagnostics, and deleting an imported book also deletes its annotations.
See Compatibility for unsupported EPUB features and Troubleshooting when a book does not open or render correctly.
