NOTE: WORK IN PROGRESS - START FROM COPY OF 2 WEEKS AGO

General updates (roundtable)

  • Refactoring Project (Paul S., James)
    • What should perspectives look like in the refactored GUI?
      • Do we want icons for perspectives, theory, data etc?
      • How does all of this look in the midi area?
      • What happens to perspectives when the close button is pressed?
      • What will this look like? Can we generate some mocks for this?
    • Plotting refactor
      • Right now, we have an isolated demo of a tabbed plotting widget focussed on the Fitting perspective, alongside some code integrating the widget into the current implementation of the fitting perspective
      • Do we need to work on refactoring perspectives before adding the plotting widget?
      • What about the new MuMag perspective?
        • Would a simpler perspective be better?
        • MuMag perspective PR is currently being reviewed, with plotting done within the perspective.
        • But, using MuMag will give us the opportunity to demonstrate the new abilities available through the refactoring project.
        • Maybe try Invariant or Inversion (P(r)) first, then MuMag - advantage that Invariant is being worked on at the moment too.
    • We have several PRs, each of which have reviewers assigned.
    • When will the next refactoring hackathon be held? Maybe early December?
      • Note that contributor camp ends in early Nov - this could help us keep up momentum.
  • Any SASBDB integration project updates? (Wojciech)
    • Draft stack on main: #4077 export core, #4078 export dialog/Tools menu, #4079 fitting auto-fill + CorMap
    • First PR now ready for review.
  • Generic Scattering Calculator redesign working group (Wojciech)
    • Temporarily on back burner. No longer aiming for contriubutor camp
    • May target a focused hackathon in 2027 - possibly in conjunction with LINXS
  • Sasmodels working group (refactoring / marketplace vs core) (Butler)
    • Meeting held on Oct 23 and list updated for contributor camp
    • Prioritization exercise still waiting for Paul to send out
    • Marketplace.sasview.org has been upgraded in preparation for the camp
      • It now runs from the CI on github/marketplace (was completely decoupled from github)
      • Upgraded from python 3.8 to 3.12 and Django 4.2.30 to Django 5.2.17
      • Fix for files not uploading applied
    • Wiki page
  • Contributor Camps (Butler)
    • Camp XV — Prague, 3–9 Nov 2026 — planning/info page
      • Register and get travel approval
      • Currently 21 attendees effectively confirmed with 2 to 3 more in discussion
      • Poster session — SasView usage in your research, including how AI is used or would help
        • Reminder + poster theme still to go to the developer list (Butler)
      • Expected camp projects (from technical meeting): refactoring, sasmodels rework, magnetic SANS, release automation, pixi (Marie)
      • Will start planning projects, boards, and discussions
    • Need to be across actual attendance dates of some contributors. How can we easily record this?
      • There is a question on the registration form.
      • Can we modify this information on the form?
    • Camp XVI — Soleil submitted — decision late November 2026 — target early Nov 2027

Discussions

  • 6.2.1 Release - Paul Sharp

    • Timeline:
      • Code freeze: Friday 9th October
      • Release: Friday 23rd October
    • Master issue — 6 of 12 tracker items closed
    • Still open on the tracker:
      • #4081 Multiple / batch slicing incompatibilities — no PR - probably leave aside now
      • #3986 Invariant upgrade part II - PR for bug fixes incoming
      • #3993 Leftover crumbs when renaming a model - potentially covered by #4118
      • #3981 Pinned deps not used for release-branch PR builds
      • #4108 Form-factor plugin docs (pure-Python P(Q))
      • #4109 Plugin model error — PR #4111
    • Also in flight / discussed for 6.2.1:
      • #4067 fit_started flag — Krzywon tested, wants more before approve; reviewer now Butler
      • #4110 ghost polydispersity comboboxes (#4105, found after #4072)
        • Both of these PRs have been approved but not merged. Why is this, and should they be included in 6.2.1?
      • sasmodels #722 fractal S(Q) at small Q — listed at technical meeting
      • Include newly merged models from #719?
    • Packaging leftovers from technical meeting:
      • conda-forge 6.2.0: sasview-feedstock #56 still open (Azure/GHA failed; automerge blocked)
      • pyausaxs: no conda build; pip wheel issues on Intel Macs — James/Marie + Kristian — still waiting for release tag?
    • 6.2.0 documentation issue for installing on ubuntu. Installed from github with pyinstaller.
      • Possibly just need to be clearer with recommended installation methods.
  • SAS2027

    • September 2027
    • Should be possible to have a talk/presentation and user meeting area (instead of booth)
    • Possible
  • Where should developer documentation go? (James)

    • At the moment, we have a developer documentation section in the docs we package with SasView, but its mostly empty.
    • Instead, it seems most developer documentation we have (style guides, tutorials etc) seem to be in the wiki. Is this the right place for them?
    • A new issue to consider is that developers might want to provide style guides to AI tools for reviewing code, and they can't easily access them if they're on the wiki.
