Settings and Diagnostics

Tiago Valente edited this page Oct 12, 2026 · 1 revision

Beta. The Settings screen and everything on it are new in 0.4.3. They pass the automated tests against the simulated console but have not yet been tried on a real PS5.

Settings is the gear button at the top of every screen. It has three parts:

  • Diagnostics: a log of what the page did, to send with a bug report.
  • Controller shortcut: open CheatSpecter from the controller. See Controller Shortcut.
  • CheatSpecter on the PS5: stop the payload without restarting the console.

When the page is served by a computer (see Installation), Settings also has Disconnect, to pick another console. On a phone that button is only here; on a wider screen it is also at the top of the page.

Diagnostics

Open diagnostics shows what CheatSpecter did on this page since it was opened: connections, cheats switched on and off, cheat files loaded, saved and deleted, and anything that went wrong. The newest lines are at the top.

The log stays in the browser. It is gone when the page is closed or reloaded, unless you copy or save it first. The last 3,000 lines are kept.

How much to keep:

Choice Keeps
Problems only Errors and warnings
Normal Also connections, cheats switched and cheat files loaded
Everything Also every request to the PS5. Use it when asked to.

The choice applies from then on. It is saved on the PS5 for every device when the payload is there, otherwise in this browser.

Sending a log with a bug report

  1. If the problem is hard to catch, open Diagnostics first, choose Everything, and go back and make the problem happen again.
  2. Open Settings → Open diagnostics.
  3. Press Copy log and paste it into your report, or Save log to get a text file named cheatspecter-log-<date>-<time>.txt to attach.

Both start with the CheatSpecter version, the browser, the console, the game that was running and the size of the screen, so you do not have to type those in. Clear empties the log, which helps to show only what happens next.

Reports go to the issues page. Look through the log before you post it: it names your game and the console's address on your home network.

Shutting down CheatSpecter on the PS5

Shut down CheatSpecter on the PS5 stops the payload, for example before you load another payload. It asks first, and Cancel has the focus, so a stray tap or Enter stops nothing. Until you load the payload again:

  • the page, and any other device showing it, loses its connection;
  • cheats set to Keep on are no longer kept on, and values the page holds stop being held;
  • changes already made in the game stay until the game restarts.

The game keeps running, and ps5debug stays loaded.

Afterward the page says "CheatSpecter has stopped on the PS5". Load the payload again and press Check again; the page also notices by itself and reconnects.

This only works when the page is opened from the PS5's own address (http://<PS5 IP>:8744). A page served by a computer cannot stop the payload, and says so. A CheatSpecter payload older than 0.4.3 refuses the request; restarting the PS5 stops it too.
