Installation
Windows installers are on the Releases page.
The installers are not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen will probably show "Windows protected your PC" the first time you run one, and your browser may ask you to confirm the download. That is expected for a new, unsigned open-source app and does not by itself mean anything is wrong. To go ahead, click More info, then Run anyway.
Because the installer is unsigned, check that it really came from this project:
- Download it only from this repository's Releases page.
- Compare its SHA-256 with
SHA256SUMS.txt, which is attached to each release:Get-FileHash .\RerunTV-Setup-<version>.exe -Algorithm SHA256 - Or verify the build provenance with the GitHub CLI:
gh attestation verify .\RerunTV-Setup-<version>.exe --repo Zhubbs19/RerunTV
If you would rather not run an unsigned installer, build it from source. Signing the installers is planned, and this section will be updated when it happens. Report anything suspicious through SECURITY.md.
A new install opens a short three-page setup before Channel Setup:
- Welcome: what RerunTV changes and what it does not (your media stays where it is, setup autosaves and keeps backups, network features are optional).
- Choose how it looks: Full retro look (the default), Gentle (no screen flicker or channel-change static) or Minimal (the CRT effect off as well). See Comfort and Photosensitivity.
- Choose how RerunTV updates: before the app opens, after it opens (install when you quit, or ask when ready), only when you ask, or never. See Updates and Versions.
Then you land on Channel Setup. Continue with the Quick Start.
On a TV, the same choices are in a remote-driven wizard (welcome, channels, look, updates, remote check).
RerunTV is portable: your channels, settings, backups, plugins and library live in a userData folder next to the app, so the whole box can be copied or backed up as one folder. Setup keeps rotating backups of your settings, and the app takes a backup before an update installs. Before any big change, copy the userData folder somewhere safe.
- Windows for the packaged installers. The source also runs where Electron does, and macOS and Linux builds are configured but untested.
- ffmpeg on your PATH is optional. It is only needed to convert videos the built-in player cannot decode. See Supported video formats.
