Increasing the Timing

You might want to do this for a couple of different reasons, namely:

  1. If the motor "cogs" or stutters and fails to synchronize on start - by raising this value.
  2. You want to optimize the rotational speed (rpm) of the motor - by raising this value.
  3. You want to improve braking - by lowering this value.
  4. You are running a high Kv motor (>15,000Kv) - by raising this value.

Use the WiFi link to accomplish this task.

The "timing" parameter setting is set by default to 16. The timing can be set to a value of 1 through 31. Each increment represents about a degree (15˚/16) of advance. This should be suitable for a wide variety of motors.

Increasing the value should allow high Kv motors to synchronize. If it doesn't, also try increasing the pwm frequency and the duty_spup - make small incremental changes to each one and retest after each change.

Increase the value in small steps and re-test until the motor synchronizes. Alternatively - try splits of 16, 31, 23 then either side of 23 to refine it - either 26 or 19.

There is no harm in increasing the value to its maximum setting of 31. The result will be the motor will rev slightly higher, however at the expense of torque. There is an optimal value for all motors where the revs and torque are maximized. Test, test, test.
