Getting started

Requirements: Node.js 22.23.1 (pinned in .nvmrc) and a current desktop browser. From a clean checkout, install the exact locked dependencies and run:

npm ci
npm run dev

Open the localhost URL printed by Vite. localhost is treated as a secure context. The first WebUSB permission grant requires a compatible browser and a user gesture; WebGPU additionally requires a compatible GPU/driver. The application detects these capabilities independently. The spectrum automatically falls back to Canvas2D when WebGPU is unavailable or fails. In Display settings → Display renderer, select Compatibility (Canvas2D) to use it explicitly or WebGPU (automatic fallback) to retry WebGPU. Both displays use RF I/Q analysis and retain tuning, pause, scaling and sample-clock gap markers; compatibility mode uses the existing 4096-bin CPU/WASM analysis and a peak-preserving 1024-column, 240-row waterfall. Hardware still requires WebUSB.

Before connecting, Setup help offers device-specific instructions for the browser-detected OS, with a manual OS selector. Receiver errors show a short recovery hint, a retry or release action, and expandable Show recovery steps. Linux RTL-SDR guidance includes temporary DVB-driver unloading; other hints cover USB permissions, WinUSB, reconnecting and power cycling. BrowserSDR cannot inspect host drivers or run these commands. Cancelling the device chooser remains a normal status and does not create an error report.
