##How the prototype is used

Local Knowledge is an interactive table that allows people to find news and share it with others. The news provides a perspective from a journalists point of view as well as those from social media. There are many opinions as to what is more correct and which is to be trusted. The table allows to get both points of view and you can form your own opinion.

The user searches for a location of interest by tapping on the locations marker on the revolving globe. this takes them to an open play area where the news headlines from that location are presented. The user can move the headline around, resize it and share it with other people at the table. Triple click on a card and that headline and all Twitter feeds related to that headline appear in the play area as well. This provides the users with the ability to read, compare and share ideas and ideas.

Triple click on the headline brings back all other news headlines and you continue the search, share and comparison of news. A reset button clears those news headlines and presents you with more current headlines and twitter feeds. If you wish to search for a new location click on the Daily Planet logo and you are taken back to the revolving globe and more locations to search.

Features we would like to add to the table in the future:

  • The initial plan was to have the news headlines automatically activate the twitter feed and when drawn to the centre of the open play area twitter feeds will automatically populate around that headline. the same type of interaction will happen when removed from the centre.
  • News can come from many sources and we hope to extend the capacity to other news API and other social media. News can be categorised into many interests and we would like to add filters to narrow the search to areas such as political, sports, technology, entertainment and other ares of interest.
  • Some interactive functionality will need to be refined to allow the cards to be passed easy between the users and limiting the expansion size to be of a readable size without taking up the whole table.
