  6. Select Restore backup.
  7. Select the backup.

  10. Review the safety-copy location.
  11. Confirm the restoration.
  12. Select Verify restore after completion.

Returning to an existing computer

Codex Lifeboat first compares the backup with the data already present on that computer.

It does not blindly combine project directories. Depending on the situation, it can offer choices such as:

  • Keep the backup version
  • Keep the version on this computer
  • Keep both conversations
  • Archive and replace a project
  • Retain a destination-only project
  • Skip an item
  • Cancel the restoration

Files are only replaced after the selected replacement has been staged and verified.

Different Windows usernames

Supported Windows profile paths are translated automatically. A backup made under a username such as Dennis can therefore be restored under a username such as Denni.

External drives, USB locations, network paths, and unusual project locations may require confirmation.

Recovery and rollback

Before changing destination data, Codex Lifeboat creates a local safety copy.

If restoration fails, it attempts to roll back the changes. Recovery points can be inspected through Manage recovery points.
