IRSSI

IRSSI is one of two textual IRC clients which are currently popular at the moment. The other being Weechat. Although, like any good computer geek, nothing could ever replace the legacy of BitchX. I highly recommend an IRC client with a textual interface anyway because that's pretty much what IRC is: text.

IRSSI for the most part is written in PERL as are any scripts to make it more awesome.

IRC, if you didn't know means Internet Relay Chat.

Why use IRC?

Three words: Live user support.

Generally during daylight hours, there's plenty of geeks, like myself either at home or work shooting the breeze talking about computer stuff. The major IRC network for this is Freenode.
