eeu.cal — Country/Continent Name Catalog

Status: ✅ Cracked · 23.3 KB · NOT_COMPRESSED — every field explained, validated exhaustively.

A multi-language name catalog for countries (and "Europe" as a continent), cross-referenced against both eeu.ctr (country identity) and eeu.abc (which language each name is in). Previously entirely unexamined — only a candidate 48-byte record size had been derived from the shared header fields (see Header Trailer Fields), not the content.

Record format

94-byte header (record count 484 read straight off its own header field), then exactly 484 fixed 48-byte records — validated exhaustively: every one of the 35 distinct groups was inspected in full, not sampled.

uint16 LE country_id
uint8 is_continent
uint8 lang_index
bytes[40] name -- NUL-padded, natural word order
bytes[4] 0xFFFFFFFF -- constant on all 484 records

country_id — alphabetical rank by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code

0 is reserved for 2 "Europe" pseudo-entries (EUROPE/ЕВРОПА), not tied to any real eeu.ctr row. 1–34 are the disc's 34 unique alpha-3 codes (eeu.ctr has 35 rows but lists Russia twice — once transliterated, once in Cyrillic, both RUS) in exactly alphabetical order:

ID Code Country ID Code Country
1 ALB Albania 18 LTU Lithuania
2 AUT Austria 19 LVA Latvia
3 BGR Bulgaria 20 MDA Moldova
4 BIH Bosnia and Herzegovina 21 MKD North Macedonia
5 BLR Belarus 22 MNE Montenegro
6 CHE Switzerland 23 NOR Norway
7 CZE Czechia 24 POL Poland
8 DEU Germany 25 ROU Romania
9 DNK Denmark 26 RUS Russia
10 EST Estonia 27 SMR San Marino
11 FIN Finland 28 SRB Serbia
12 GRC Greece 29 SVK Slovakia
13 HRV Croatia 30 SVN Slovenia
14 HUN Hungary 31 SWE Sweden
15 ITA Italy 32 TUR Turkey
16 KOS Kosovo 33 UKR Ukraine
17 LIE Liechtenstein 34 VAT Vatican City

This is a third, independent country numbering on this disc — distinct from both eeu.ctr's own arbitrary row order (Switzerland is row 0 there) and eeu.cty's empirically-resolved country_tag field (eeu.cty, e.g. 375 for Albania). Found by directly sorting eeu.ctr's already-cracked alpha-3 field and comparing against the observed groups — no new empirical matching needed this time.

Every name in every one of the 35 groups was checked and is a genuine real-world name for that exact country/continent in some real language. Group 8 (Germany) has 13 entries: ALEMANHA (Portuguese), ALEMANIA (Spanish), ALLEMAGNE (French), ALMANYA (Turkish), DEUTSCHLAND (German), DUITSLAND (Dutch), GERMANIA (Italian), GERMANIYA (transliterated), GERMANY (English), NEMECKO/NĚMECKO (Slovak/Czech), NIEMCY (Polish), TYSKLAND (Scandinavian). Group 21 (North Macedonia) alone has 40 entries, reflecting that country's real historical naming dispute — many literally spell out "former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" in different languages (FORMER YUGOSLAV REP.OF MACEDONIA, EHEMALIGE JUGOSLAW.REP.MAZEDONIEN, B.JUGOSLOWIANSKA REPUB.MACEDONII, ...).

lang_index — matches eeu.abc's own per-language index

Confirmed directly against eeu.abc's language table: lang_index=24 ('eng') on the English entries, 66 ('rus') on the Cyrillic entry, 30 ('fre') on the French entries, 78 ('swe') on the Swedish entry, 80 ('tur') on ARNAVUTLUK (Albania in Turkish) — every cross-check correct, no exceptions found.

is_continent

1 only on the 2 Europe pseudo-entries, 0 on every real country.

Practical use

Combine read_cal() with abc_reader.read_abc()'s language table (index → language code) for a real (country, language) → localized name lookup — e.g. showing a localized country name in an Address Entry country list instead of whatever single name eeu.ctr itself stores.

Reader code
