Welcome to the FLImBrushDataProcessingTool wiki!

The FLImBrushDataProcessingTool is a Matlab user interface for recovering fluorescence lifetime from measured fluorescence decay developed by Marcu Lab at the University of California, Davis.

This tool utilizes the Laguerre Expansion Method (details below) to reconstruct the fluorescence decay of the measured fluorescence and compute the fluorescence lifetime of the sample.

This wiki will only provide the basic knowledge needed to understand how the fluorescence lifetime estimation process works. For the nitty-gritty about the underlying mathematics please refer to the references.

Laguerre Expansion Method

The Laguerre Expansion Method was originally developed by Professor Viterbi Faculty Directory from the University of South California for the identification of nonlinear biological systems [1]. This approach employs the orthonormal basis of discrete-time Laguerre functions to expand the kernels and reduce the number of unknown parameters that need to be estimated, relative to the traditional discrete-time representation of the kernels. This approach was first suggested by Wiener in his pivotal monograph and was first implemented by Watanabe and Stark. For details, please refer to the papers in reference.
