Tailnet IRL Server installs MediaMTX and a purpose-built status dashboard as native background services. All media listeners bind directly to the server's Tailscale IPv4 address. The control API and metrics remain on localhost.

What version 1.8 provides

  • Authenticated SRT contribution from Moblin
  • Authenticated SRT and RTSP output for OBS, VLC and FFmpeg
  • RTMP fallback ingest plus LL-HLS and WebRTC preview
  • Native launchd services on macOS and systemd services on Linux
  • Mobile dashboard with one-tap Moblin configuration and copyable receiver URLs
  • Live bitrate, uptime, reader, track and traffic telemetry
  • Server-side signal monitoring with automatic stalled-feed detection and recovery
  • Persistent 30-day connection history with completed stream durations
  • Optional fMP4 or MPEG-TS server-side recording
  • Disk-space and aggregate recording-size warnings
  • One management command for status, restart, update checks and recording controls
  • Non-destructive doctor preflight for Tailnet, service, binding, credential and storage readiness
  • Separate automatically generated publisher and reader credentials

Deliberate boundaries

  • No Docker requirement
  • No router port forwarding
  • No public Cloudflare Tunnel or public ingest endpoint
  • No automatic upload to a streaming platform
  • No multi-interface bonding or SRTLA receiver
  • One configured stream path: live

A healthy installation

  1. The server and clients appear in Tailscale.
  2. The private dashboard opens at http://100.x.y.z:8090 from an authorized Tailnet device.
  3. irl-serverctl doctor ends with BEREIT or BEREIT MIT WARNUNG.
  4. Starting Moblin changes the dashboard badge to LIVE.
  5. OBS receives H.264 video and AAC audio from the SRT reader URL.

Important

The dashboard contains working publisher and reader URLs. Treat dashboard access and complete connection URLs like credentials. Only trusted Tailnet devices should be able to reach it.
