License and attribution

The canonical terms are the repository's LICENSE, NOTICE and ATTRIBUTION.md. Those files control if this summary differs from them.

Tailnet IRL Server may be used, modified and redistributed under the BSD Advertising Acknowledgement License. Redistributions and promotional material mentioning the software must prominently include:

This product includes Tailnet IRL Server software developed by Nik Pottbecker (https://github.com/nikpottbecker/tailnet-irl-server).

What “prominent” means

The acknowledgement must be reasonably visible to a person using, receiving or reading about the derived product. It must not be hidden only in package metadata, commit history or an unrelated dependency lockfile.

Placement examples

Use Recommended placement
Source repository or fork Near the top of README plus retained license/notice files
Desktop/mobile application About, Credits or Legal screen accessible from primary navigation
Hosted service About/Credits/Legal page linked from the main UI or footer
Command-line distribution Primary documentation and an About/version surface
Marketing that names the software Directly in the material or an immediately visible credits section

The acknowledgement does not imply endorsement by Nik Pottbecker.

Modifications and redistribution

When redistributing a modified version:

  1. Retain the license and required notices.
  2. Include the acknowledgement prominently.
  3. Mark your own changes clearly.
  4. Do not suggest that the original author endorses the modified product.
  5. Review third-party dependency licenses separately.
