Ruin Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 25, 2026

Ruin is an iPhone app developed and provided by Hajime Nakamura as an individual. This page explains what the app does and does not collect.

The app has no account registration. It never asks for your name, email address, or phone number, and there is no login.

Your photos stay on your device

The photos you edit and the glitch art you create are processed entirely on your device.

  • Images are never uploaded anywhere — the app has no server for your images
  • Editing runs locally on your device's GPU (Metal)
  • A finished image is written only to your own Photos library, when you choose to save it

The usage measurement and crash reporting described below never include your photos or the images you create.

Photos permission

When you save an image, iOS asks for permission to add photos to your library. This is used only to save your finished image. The photo you edit is chosen through the system photo picker; Ruin does not otherwise read or browse your photo library.

Usage measurement (Google Analytics for Firebase)

To improve the app, we use Google's Firebase Analytics to measure anonymous usage such as the actions below. We never send your photos or images — only "that an action happened" and counts.

Examples of measured actions:

  • Loading a photo, shuffling, saving an image (and counts)
  • Showing the paywall (Ruin Pro), purchasing or restoring Pro

In doing so, Firebase obtains information such as the app instance ID (an identifier assigned per app install), device model, OS version, and coarse region. These are not used to identify you personally and are not linked to a name or email (which we do not have in the first place).

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

So that crashes can be diagnosed and fixed, we use Google's Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash information (technical logs at the time of the crash, device model, OS version, etc.). This is used only to fix defects and never includes your photos or images.

Purchases (In-App Purchase)

"Ruin Pro" is a one-time purchase via Apple's App Store (not a subscription). Payment is processed by Apple; the developer never receives payment details such as credit card numbers. Whether you have purchased is determined from the App Store entitlement on your device (StoreKit) — no developer server is involved. App Store purchases are handled under Apple's Privacy Policy.

App Tracking Transparency (ATT) and ads

The app does not request ATT permission. It does not obtain the advertising identifier (IDFA) used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, does not track you, and shows no ads.

Sharing with third parties

Other than Google (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics) described above, we do not provide, share, or sell your data.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post it on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
