E2iPlayer settings
This page explains every option in the E2iPlayer settings: what it does, where it has an effect and when you might want to change it. The defaults work for most users. You only need to change something if you have a reason to.
- On the E2iPlayer home screen press MENU, or
- in the E2iPlayer home screen press BLUE (More) → Settings, or
- Enigma2 Menu → Setup → System → Configure E2iPlayer (can be switched off, see Show E2iPlayer settings in system menu).
If Pin protection for configuration is on, you are asked for the PIN first.
The settings can also be changed from your PC: http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer → Settings (needs Initialize web interface, see below). PIN settings can only be changed on the box, and with Pin protection for configuration switched on, the web page shows the settings read-only. See Web interface.
| Key | Function |
|---|---|
| UP / DOWN | Move between options |
| LEFT / RIGHT | Change the value of the selected option |
| OK | Open a folder browser, a sub-screen (Services configuration, External movie player config), a PIN dialog or run a Delete … now action. On a text field (login, password, API key): open the virtual keyboard. On a number option: open the numeric keypad (see Numeric keypad for numbers). In the category view: open the category. |
| 0–9 | On a number option: type the value directly |
| MENU | Show all possible values of the selected option in a list |
| < / > | Category view only: jump to the previous / next category |
| GREEN | Save and close |
| RED | Cancel (discard changes) |
| YELLOW | Reset all settings (except text fields such as logins, API keys, proxy addresses) to their defaults |
| BLUE | Search in the settings (see below) |
| INFO | Open the Info screen (About / System / Log) |
| EXIT | In a category: back to the category list. Otherwise: close (asks whether to save changes). |
Many options have sub-options that only appear when the main option is switched on (they are shown indented). Some settings need an Enigma2 GUI restart; E2iPlayer tells you so after saving.
Logins, passwords and API keys: passwords and API keys are never shown in clear text in the list, not even in the selected row: one * per character, ***** while the field is empty (like the PIN, so nothing readable ends up on a screenshot). Empty login / e-mail fields show xxxxx. Press OK to see and edit the real value in the keyboard. The web interface does not send passwords and keys to the browser either; there the field stays empty ("unchanged") until you type a new value.
Settings screen layout (first option) switches between:
-
Categories (default): first a list of the 16 categories; OK opens one, < / > jumps to the next, EXIT goes back. The title shows the category and its number, e.g.
E2iPlayer - < Downloading Configuration > (10/16). -
Long list: all options in one list, separated by headers like
----- BASIC CONFIGURATION -----.
The options and their order are the same in both layouts. This page follows the same order.
BLUE (Search) opens the keyboard. Type a word or several words: every option whose name contains all of them is listed, in the E2iPlayer settings with its category, e.g. Debug logs (Debug Configuration). OK on a result jumps to that option (in the category view the category is opened first). Nothing found: "No matching entries found."
- Only options that are currently shown are found: sub-options of an option that is switched off stay hidden (e.g. the debug sub-options while Debug logs is No).
- The search works the same in every host's own settings (Configure host, or Services configuration → host → OK).
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Settings screen layout | Categories | Categories or Long list, see above. Takes effect immediately. |
| Initialize web interface | No | Starts the E2iPlayer web interface at http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer (needs the WebInterface/OpenWebif plugin). From there you can browse hosts, search, play links on the TV, add favourites, manage the download manager, change settings, view/download the debug log and create a support package. See Web interface. GUI restart needed.
|
| Show IPTVPlayer in plugin browser | Yes | Entry in Enigma2's plugin browser. GUI restart needed. |
| Show IPTVPlayer in extension list (blue button) | Yes | Entry in the extension list you get with the BLUE button while watching TV. GUI restart needed. |
| Show IPTVPlayer in main menu | No | Entry directly in Enigma2's main menu. GUI restart needed. |
| Show E2iPlayer settings in system menu | Yes | "Configure E2iPlayer" entry in Enigma2's system menu. GUI restart needed. |
| E2iPlayer auto start at Enigma2 start | No | Opens E2iPlayer automatically when the box starts. |
| Auto start method | wizard | Only shown when auto start is on. wizard: E2iPlayer is started as part of Enigma2's start-up sequence. infobar: E2iPlayer opens as soon as the TV infobar is shown the first time. Try the other one if auto start does not work on your image. |
| Disable live at plugin start | No | Stops the running TV channel when E2iPlayer opens (frees tuner/decoder and bandwidth). The channel is started again when you leave E2iPlayer. |
| Use the PyCurl for HTTP(S) requests | No | Uses the PyCurl library instead of Python's built-in HTTP code for web requests of hosts. Can help with sites that fail with TLS/SSL errors. Only has an effect if PyCurl is installed on the box (see the System page of the Info screen). |
At least one of plugin browser, extension list and main menu always stays on. If you switch off the last one, it is switched back on with a message, so E2iPlayer can always be started.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Virtual Keyboard type | Auto | Which on-screen keyboard is used for search and text input. Auto: E2iPlayer's own keyboard on HD/FHD screens, otherwise the system one. System: always Enigma2's keyboard. Own model: always E2iPlayer's keyboard. |
| Numeric keypad for numbers | Yes | Auto and Own model only. Where only a number is wanted (number options in the settings, page jump in hosts like XXX or serienstream.to), a small digits-only keypad opens instead of the full keyboard. The remote's number keys type directly, the allowed range is shown below the field, GREEN accepts, BLUE toggles the sign where negative values are allowed. Off (or with the System keyboard): the full keyboard is used as before. |
| Background color | Default | Own model only. Background of the keyboard window. |
| Show suggestions | Yes | Shows search suggestions while typing. |
| Default suggestions provider | Auto | Where suggestions come from (google, bing, duckduckgo, filmweb, imdb or none). |
| Allow host to override suggestions provider | Yes | A host may use its own suggestions (e.g. YouTube) instead of the default provider. |
| Show search history | Yes | Shows your previous searches in the keyboard. |
| Show flags | Yes | Shows language flags for the keyboard layouts. |
| Font size offset | 0 | Makes the keyboard text smaller (−6) or larger (+6). |
| Text field alignment | Left | Alignment of the input line (right is useful for right-to-left languages). |
| T9 letter jump in lists | Yes | Number keys jump to the first entry starting with that letter (like typing on a phone: 2 = A/B/C, …). Works in host lists, favourites, search history and download manager. When off, the number keys keep their old functions (e.g. 8 = autoplay, see Playlists and selection). |
| Remember last search entry | Yes | The search keyboard opens with your last search term already filled in. |
| Remember last search history selection | Yes | When you come back to a host's search history list, the cursor is on the entry you used last. |
| The number of items in the search history | 50 | How many previous searches are kept per host. 0 = no history. |
The Own model keyboard options can also be changed from the keyboard itself (MENU → Settings).
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Services configuration | — | Press OK to open the list of all hosts (services), see Services configuration screen. |
| Allow watched flag to be set | Yes | Items you have watched (or started) are marked in the lists and favourites. Some hosts (e.g. the mediathek hosts) also let you toggle it with MENU. |
| The color of the viewed item | gray | Title colour of fully watched items. |
| The color of the started item | yellow | Title colour of items you started but did not finish. |
| Mark downloaded items | Yes | Items that are already in your downloads get a coloured title and a small marker. |
| The color of the downloaded item | green | |
| Mark favourite items | Yes | Items that are in your favourites get a coloured title and a small marker. |
| The color of the favourite item | cyan | |
| Colored text in titles and descriptions | Yes | Hosts may colour parts of titles/descriptions (e.g. quality, language). Off = plain text everywhere. |
| https://vk.com/ login / password | empty | Your vk.com account. Used when a video is hosted on vk.com and needs a login. |
| https://1fichier.com/ e-mail / password | empty | Your 1fichier.com account. Used for links hosted on 1fichier (a premium account avoids waiting times/limits). |
Some hosts (currently Bflix and serienstream.to) show movie/series details on the info screen: plot, poster, year, duration, genres, ratings, age rating, seasons/episodes, cast, directors, … E2iPlayer asks the services switched on here, in the order TMDb → IMDb → TVmaze → Cinemeta → OMDb, until one knows the title. If none does, the site's own description and picture are shown. Results are cached for 7 days (titles not found for 1 day) in the cache folder (movie metadata cache, see Storage configuration).
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Language of the details (TMDb, IMDb) | Auto | Language of plot, genres etc. Auto = the Enigma2 language. Only TMDb and IMDb deliver translated texts (TMDb falls back to English when there is no translation); TVmaze, Cinemeta and OMDb are always English. |
| Use TMDb | Yes | themoviedb.org. Best results, also for Arabic titles, but only used once an API key is entered below. |
| TMDb API key (free at themoviedb.org) | empty | Your own free TMDb key (API Key, not the read access token). No key is built in. |
| Use IMDb (no key) | Yes | imdb.com, no key needed. |
| Use TVmaze for series (no key, English) | Yes | tvmaze.com, series only. |
| Use Cinemeta (no key, English) | Yes | Stremio's Cinemeta catalogue (IMDb based). |
| Use OMDb | No | omdbapi.com, also shows the Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings. |
| OMDb API key (free at omdbapi.com) | empty | Your own free OMDb key. |
Without any key, IMDb, TVmaze and Cinemeta already give details for most titles. A TMDb key adds better matches and translated texts.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Pin protection for plugin | No | Asks for the PIN every time E2iPlayer is started. GUI restart needed. |
| Pin protection for configuration | No | Asks for a PIN before the settings open. |
| Use own pin for configuration | No | Settings use their own PIN instead of the plugin PIN. |
| Set pin code | — | Press OK to change the PIN (old PIN → new PIN → confirm). The default PIN is 0000. It is also the PIN of every protected host that has no own PIN. |
| Set own configuration pin code | — | Press OK to set/change the separate settings PIN. |
| Remember a host's pin until E2iPlayer is closed | Yes | For PIN-protected hosts (see below): Yes = after the right PIN the host stays unlocked until you close E2iPlayer. No = the PIN is asked every time the host is opened. |
| https - validate SSL certificates | No | Checks the SSL certificates of websites. Safer, but many streaming sites use broken or expired certificates and would stop working, so it is off by default. |
| Allow external link-decryption service (enc-dec.app) | No | The resolvers VidCore, VidUp and VidFast cannot decrypt their links on the box (VidEasy, VidLink and Peachify decrypt on the box and don't need it). When on, E2iPlayer sends the site's encrypted token (containing the TMDb id of what you play) to the third-party service enc-dec.app, which sees that id and your IP address. You have to confirm twice. Leave it off if you don't use these resolvers. |
PIN for a single host: every host can be protected on its own. Open the host's settings (Services configuration → host → OK, or BLUE → Configure host inside the host):
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pin protection for this host | Asks for the PIN before the host opens, before its settings open and before its favourites play. |
| Use own pin instead of the player pin | No = the PIN from Set pin code above. Yes = a separate PIN only for this host. |
| Set own pin / Change own pin | Press OK to set it (without an own PIN set, it is 0000). |
A wrong PIN takes you back to the host selection. Autoplay and CH+/CH− in the player skip items of protected hosts. The XXX host uses the same options now (its former own PIN settings were taken over).
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Skin | Default | The E2iPlayer skin. GUI restart needed. |
| Force internal skin: all E2iPlayer screens | No | Always use E2iPlayer's built-in look for all its screens, even if your Enigma2 skin brings its own E2iPlayer screens. Use this if the image skin shows E2iPlayer wrongly. GUI restart needed. |
| Force internal skin: main screen only | No | Only shown when the option above is off. Same, but only for the main list screen. GUI restart needed. |
| Show clock in header | Yes | Clock/date in the header of E2iPlayer's screens. |
| Video player OSD clock format | None | Clock in the info banner of the external video player during playback: none, 24 h or 12 h. |
| Player Skin | default | Colour theme of the external video player's info bar/progress bar (black, red, blue, green, cobalt, …). |
| Display thumbnails | Yes | Loads and shows cover images for list items. Off = faster on slow boxes/connections, no thumbnail downloads. |
| Hosts list type | Graphic services selector | How the host selection looks: Graphic services selector (icon grid), List view (list with icons) or Simple list (text only). |
| Enable hosts groups | Yes | Hosts are sorted into groups (e.g. by language/type) on the start screen. Off = one list with all hosts. |
| Service icon size | 135x135 on FHD/WQHD, 100x100 on HD | Graphic selector only: size of the host and group icons (100, 120, 135 px). The tiles have the same pixel size on every screen resolution, so on FHD/WQHD skins the largest size is the default. A size you chose yourself is kept. |
| Number of rows / columns | auto | Only on older images without grid support: layout of the icon grid. |
| Create LCD/VFD summary screen | Yes | Shows playback info on the front display (LCD/VFD) during external playback. Auto: only on boxes with a graphical display. |
Proxy addresses in the form http://user:pass@ip:port (user/pass can be omitted). They are not used globally. A host only uses them when it offers a proxy option in its own settings (Services configuration → host → OK).
| Option | Used by |
|---|---|
| Alternative proxy server (1) … (5) | Hosts that have a "Use proxy server:" option in their own settings (e.g. TVP VOD, ARADrama): there you choose None or one of the five slots. |
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Folder for cache data | /hdd/IPTVCache/ | Data that can be recreated at any time: cookies, thumbnails, JS cache, subtitles, movie metadata. |
| Folder for temporary data | /tmp/ | Short-lived files (temporary scripts, helper files). RAM on most boxes. |
| Folder for config data | /etc/enigma2/IPTVPlayer/ | Your real data: favourites, watched status, search history, host order and groups, per-host player choice. Include it in your backups. |
| Detail/expert mode | No | Shows the cache/config maintenance options below. |
Press OK on a folder to choose another one. E2iPlayer protects itself against missing storage: if the chosen drive is not mounted, it falls back to a safe location instead of filling up the flash. The folder you chose is remembered and used again automatically at a later start once the drive is there again (a folder you picked yourself in the meantime is kept). Disks that also hold the running image (NeoBoot, boot from USB) count as real storage.
Expert mode, CACHE:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Delete cookies / JS / subtitles / movie metadata cache after (days, 0 = never) | Automatically deletes files of that cache type older than the given number of days. |
| Delete … cache now | OK deletes that cache type immediately (asks first). Deleting cookies logs you out of hosts that use a login. |
| Remove thumbnails | When downloaded thumbnails are deleted: after closing E2iPlayer, after a day, three days (default), a week, or never. |
| Delete thumbnails cache now | Deletes all thumbnails now. |
| Delete all cache files now | Empties the whole cache folder. |
Expert mode, CONFIG (real user data, cannot be undone):
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Delete movie player preferences now | Forgets the player you selected per host. |
| Delete host order and groups now | Resets your host order and group layout. |
| Delete search history now | Deletes the search history of all hosts. |
| Delete favourites and watched status now | Deletes all favourites and watched/started marks. |
| Delete all config files now | Everything above at once. |
E2iPlayer refuses to empty a folder that also contains your downloads, buffering folder or the other cache/config folder.
In buffering mode, E2iPlayer first downloads the stream to a file and the player plays that file while the download continues. This helps with streams that stutter or that the player cannot open directly. Without buffering, the player gets the stream URL directly, which is usually the better choice.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| [HTTP] buffering | No | Use buffering for normal HTTP(S) video links (mp4, …). |
| [HLS/M3U8] buffering | Yes | Use buffering for HLS (m3u8) streams. |
| [HLS/M3U8] live stream starts behind live | Default (2 minutes) | Only shown with HLS buffering on. How far behind the live edge a buffered live stream starts: Default (2 minutes), 1 minute, 30 seconds, 15 seconds, 5 seconds or At the live edge. Closer to live means less delay, but less reserve: on a slow connection or a slow server the picture may stop more often. Only for buffered playback; downloads in the download manager always use the default. |
| [RTMP] buffering (rtmpdump required) | No | Use buffering for RTMP streams. |
| Video buffer size [MB] | 2 | How much must be downloaded before video playback starts. |
| Audio buffer size [KB] | 256 | The same for audio-only items. |
| Buffering location | download folder | Where the buffer file is written. Use a drive with enough free space (not the flash). If it is not mounted, the temporary folder is used. |
Some links always use buffering (e.g. f4m) or never, regardless of these options. Which player is used in buffering mode is set in Players & playback.
DOWNLOAD MANAGER
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Downloads location | /hdd/movie/ | Where downloads are saved. |
| Start download manager per default | No | The download manager starts working on its queue as soon as E2iPlayer opens. Off = queued downloads wait until you start the manager. |
| Show download manager after adding new item | Yes | Opens the download manager when you add a download. |
| Number of downloaded files simultaneously | 1 | How many downloads run at the same time (1–50). More parallel downloads = each is slower. |
| Pause between the batch lookups of one host [s] | 20 | Batch download: seconds to wait between looking up the links of two items of the same host (0, 10, 20, 30, 60, 120). Sites like s.to block visitors without a login after many lookups in a short time. |
| Program for file downloads (HTTP/FTP) | wget | Tool for normal file downloads: wget or curl. Falls back to wget if curl is not installed. HLS/m3u8 and other stream types always use their own tools (hlsdl, ffmpeg, …). |
| File format of DASH (MPD) downloads | MKV | Container of DASH downloads (ffmpeg joins the video and audio parts): MKV, MP4 or TS. The finished file gets the matching extension. MKV takes every codec; MP4 and TS can fail with some codecs (e.g. VP9/Opus in TS). If a host sets its own format, that one is used. Buffered playback is not affected. |
| File format of HLS (M3U8) downloads | Automatic | Container of HLS downloads (hlsdl or ffmpeg): Automatic, MKV, MP4 or TS. Automatic keeps what the stream delivers (usually .ts, .mp4 for fMP4 streams, .aac for audio-only streams). The other choices convert the file with ffmpeg when needed. |
| File format of single video files (FFmpeg) | Automatic | Container of single files that ffmpeg downloads: Automatic, MKV, MP4 or TS. Automatic keeps the format of the source (an MP4 stays .mp4); separate audio + video parts, live recordings and unknown formats become .mkv. |
| Show download notification | Yes | Short on-screen message when a download finishes or fails. |
| Download notification duration | 5 s | How long the message is shown (1–10 s). |
FILES
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Create sidecar files (.txt/.jpg) | Yes | Saves the description (.txt) and cover (.jpg) next to a downloaded video, for media servers like Plex/Jellyfin/Kodi. Only hosts that support it. |
| Normalize item / file names (Show - SxxExx - Title) | Yes | Titles and download file names in a media-server friendly form, e.g. Show - S01E02 - Title, Title (2024) or Show - Title (2024-05-01). Used by most hosts (all hosts on the host standard). |
Some sites protect their links with a captcha (reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Cloudflare Turnstile). A box cannot solve these itself.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Default captcha bypass | Auto | MyE2i: solve the captcha in your PC/phone browser with the MyE2i extension (free, recommended, see Solve Cloudflare hCaptcha reCAPTCHA with MyE2i). 2captcha.com / 9kw.eu / DeathByCaptcha: paid solving services, need an API key or account below. Auto: uses MyJDownloader if its login is filled in, otherwise shows a hint. |
| MyE2i extension: increase security | No | When on, the address typed by hand needs a six-digit code (shown in the window title) and the QR code carries a one-time key, so nobody else in your network can send results to the box. |
| MyE2i: offer to open the page in (Android) | Default browser | A phone's camera opens the QR code in the default browser, on Android mostly Chrome, which has no extensions. With a browser chosen here (Kiwi, Yandex, Microsoft Edge, Edge Canary / Beta / Dev), the box's start page shows a button Open this page in … that opens it in that browser, where the MyE2i extension is installed. The QR code itself stays the plain address. |
| Launcher URI | empty | Only with Own launcher URI: any address with {url} (the whole box address) or {address} (the same without http://) in it, e.g. intent://{address}#Intent;scheme=http;package=<app package>;end. |
| MyE2i: close the start page when done | No | The tab with the captcha always closes itself after solving. When on, the box's start page closes as well once the result has reached the box. |
| https://9kw.eu/ API KEY | empty | Your 9kw.eu key. |
| https://2captcha.com/ API KEY | empty | Your 2captcha.com key. |
| https://deathbycaptcha.com/ login / password | empty | Your DeathByCaptcha account (paid service). Solves reCAPTCHA v2, v3, v2 Enterprise and Cloudflare Turnstile, no hCaptcha. Error messages from the service (wrong login, balance too low, …) are shown on the screen. |
| My JDownloader e-mail / password / device name | empty | Your MyJDownloader account and the name of the JDownloader instance that should solve captchas. |
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Use subtitles parser extension if available | Yes | Uses the fast native subtitle parser (_subparser) instead of the slower Python one. Only has an effect if the extension is installed; the System page of the Info screen shows whether it is. Without it (or when it fails on a file) the Python parsers read SRT, VTT, ASS/SSA, MicroDVD, SubViewer, TMPlayer and MPL2; the content decides the format, not the file extension. |
| https://subsource.net/ API Key | empty | Optional. SubSource works without a key; with a key the official SubSource API is searched as well. |
| https://subdl.com/ API Key | empty | Optional. SubDL works without a key; with a key the official SubDL API is searched as well. |
| https://sub.wyzie.io/ API Key | empty | Needed for the Wyzie Subs provider. Free key from https://store.wyzie.io/redeem. |
| https://opensubtitles.org/ login / password | empty | Optional account for the OpenSubtitles.org providers (higher download limit). Anonymous downloads work too. |
| https://www.opensubtitles.com/ API Key | empty | Needed for the OpenSubtitles.com API provider. Free: create your own API consumer at https://www.opensubtitles.com/consumers and enter its key. |
| https://www.opensubtitles.com/ login / password | empty | Optional opensubtitles.com account. Searching is free, downloads are counted: without a login only a few per IP and day, an account raises the daily limit. |
| https://napisy24.pl/ login / password | empty | Account for Napisy24.pl (Polish subtitles). |
| https://www.titulky.com/ login / password | empty | Optional account for Titulky.com (Czech/Slovak). Without it the site's captcha and countdown are shown before a download. |
| https://titlovi.com/ login / password | empty | Needed for Titlovi.com (Balkan languages). Free titlovi.com account; the search uses the API of the official Kodi addon. |
| https://www.prijevodi-online.org/ login / password | empty | Prijevodi-Online.org: series subtitles download without an account, movie subtitles need one. The site currently asks for a captcha at login, which E2iPlayer cannot solve; you then get a message. |
The subtitle providers are used when you search for subtitles during playback (see Playback and subtitles). Most of them need no account: OpenSubtitles.org (API, REST and v3), SubDL, SubSource, Subf2m, Subtitlecat (incl. machine translations), YTS Subs, MovieSubtitles.org, IndexSubtitle.cc, JustSubtitles.com, Subs.ro, YouTube captions, Napiprojekt.pl (Polish, needs the subtitle parser extension), and Subtitles Mora (Arabic) and Titulky.com (Czech/Slovak), which are only listed when the Enigma2 language is Arabic or Czech/Slovak. OpenSubtitles.com API needs your own API key (see above). Subtitles of the same release (resolution, source, group) as the playing stream are listed first.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Autoplay start delay | 3 | PLAY in a list plays all items one after another (autoplay). This is the countdown in seconds before the next item starts (0–9). With 0, the list is not shown between items. See Playlists and selection. |
| Block wmv files | Yes | Refuses to play .wmv links (most boxes can't play them). |
| Movie player selection list | Standard | The "Set active movie player" choice (BLUE More in a host list). Standard: auto + the configured players. Extended: every available player directly. |
| First movie player without buffering mode | auto | Player used for links played directly (no buffering). |
| Second movie player without buffering mode | auto | Alternative player for the same case (selectable per host/link). |
| First movie player in buffering mode | auto | Player used when buffering is active. |
| Second movie player in buffering mode | auto | Alternative player for buffering mode. |
| External movie player config | — | Press OK to open the settings of the external players, see External movie player config. Only shown when an external player (or auto) is selected above. |
| Write current title to file: | empty | If a file path is entered (e.g. /tmp/e2i_title.txt), the title of the item being played is written there, e.g. for LCD/VFD scripts or home automation. |
The players:
- auto: picks the best available player: external eplayer3 → external gstplayer → internal → standard.
-
external eplayer3 (
exteplayer3): E2iPlayer's own FFmpeg-based player. Plays most formats, supports its own subtitles, audio track switching, RAM buffer, software audio decoding. Recommended. -
external gstplayer: E2iPlayer's own GStreamer-based player. If
/usr/bin/gstplayer2is installed (oe-mirrors/iptvplayer-bin-components, also used by ServiceApp) it is used automatically, otherwise the old/usr/bin/gstplayer. - internal: a small player inside E2iPlayer using Enigma2's service playback.
- standard: the normal Enigma2 movie player of your image.
The external players only appear when they are installed (/usr/bin/exteplayer3, /usr/bin/gstplayer2 or /usr/bin/gstplayer). The System page of the Info screen shows which ones are present.
Torrent links (magnet / .torrent) are played through TorrServer, a separate program that you install yourself. All options are explained on Torrents with TorrServer.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Play torrents with TorrServer | No | Switches torrent playback and the torrent hosts on. You are asked to confirm (torrents are peer-to-peer, your IP address is visible to other users). The other options appear when it is on. |
After some time without a key press, E2iPlayer shows a screensaver: a moving logo or cover with the title and a clock on black. The first key press only ends the screensaver, it does nothing else.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Screensaver in E2iPlayer menus | 5 minutes | In every E2iPlayer screen except the players (host lists, settings, download manager, …): off, 1, 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. |
| While live TV is running | Hide the menu (live TV visible) | Hide the menu: only the E2iPlayer windows disappear and the TV channel behind them stays visible. Black screensaver: the screensaver as above. Without live TV in the background the black screensaver is always used. |
| Screensaver during audio playback | 1 minute | During audio-only playback in the external player (radio, music): off, 30 seconds, 1, 2 or 5 minutes. Shows the cover or host logo, title and playing time. |
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Debug logs | No | Writes a detailed E2iPlayer log to the console or a file (/hdd/iptv.dbg, /tmp/iptv.dbg, /home/root/logs/iptv.dbg). Needed for bug reports. |
| Keep FFmpeg command files (.iptv.cmd) | Yes | Keeps the FFmpeg command of a download next to the video file. |
| Keep temporary JS scripts | Yes | Keeps the JavaScript files that hosts ran, in the temporary folder. |
| Clear the log file at plugin start | Yes | Deletes the log each time E2iPlayer starts. |
| Maximum log file size | unlimited | Size limit of the log file (2–100 MB). |
| When the maximum is reached | truncate | Empty the file, or rotate it to iptv-<date>.dbg. |

All debug options, and how to get the log, are explained in detail on How to create debug logs.
Opened with OK on Services configuration.
- Every host is listed with on / off. Switched-off hosts disappear from E2iPlayer's lists (and are not loaded). GREEN saves.
- OK on a host opens that host's own settings (logins, quality, language, proxy use, …), if it has any. Otherwise you get "Service has no additional settings".
- BLUE Enable reordering mode: then OK picks up a host (shown red), UP/DOWN moves it, OK drops it. The order is used for the host list. BLUE again ends reordering.
Opened with OK on External movie player config. These options apply to external eplayer3 and external gstplayer.
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Remember last watched position | No | Saves where you stopped. Next time the same video continues automatically a few seconds before that point. |
| Skip video shorter than [min] | 0 | Don't save the position for videos shorter than this (e.g. clips). |
External exteplayer3 options (only for eplayer3):
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| RAM buffer size [MB] for network protocols | 0 | Extra RAM buffer for streams from the internet. Helps against stuttering on slow connections. 0 = off. Don't set it higher than your box's free RAM allows. |
| RAM buffer size [MB] for local files | 0 | The same for local files (e.g. downloads). |
| Use software decoder for the AAC / AC3 / EAC3 / DTS / WMA / MP3 | only WMA on | Decodes this audio format in software instead of by the box's hardware. Turn on for a format that plays without sound or with errors on your box. Costs CPU. |
| Software decoding as | PCM | Output format of the software decoder: PCM or LPCM. Try LPCM if you have no sound with software decoding. |
| Stereo downmix mode for software decoder | No | Mixes multi-channel audio down to stereo when it is software-decoded. |
| AC3 / AAC downmix mode | from E2 settings | Only shown if your image supports it: downmix setting for AC3/AAC during E2iPlayer playback, independent of Enigma2's setting. |
General player options:
| Option | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Info bar timeout | 5 s | How long the player's info bar stays visible. |
| Default video aspect ratio / Default video policy for 16:9 / for 4:3 | from E2 settings | Only shown if your image supports it: picture format during E2iPlayer playback, independent of Enigma2's settings. Can also be changed during playback. |
| Automatically turn on external subtitles | Yes | When you play a local file (download, LocalMedia) and no subtitle was chosen before, a subtitle file with the same name next to the video (e.g. movie.srt for movie.mp4) is loaded automatically. |
| Subtitle line wrapping | No | Long subtitle lines are wrapped automatically. |
| Subtitle font / font size / font color | Regular / 40 / white | Look of the subtitles. |
| Subtitle line height / Line Spacing | 40 / 4 | Height of a subtitle line and space between lines. |
| Subtitle background | Black | Background behind the subtitles: transparent, black, dark gray, light gray. |
| Subtitle box position | 50 | Distance of the subtitles from the bottom of the screen. |
| Subtitle box height / vertical alignment | 240 / bottom | Only with line wrapping and transparent background: size of the subtitle area and where the text sits in it. |
| Subtitle border enabled / color / width | Yes / black / 3 | Outline around the letters (only on images that support it). |
| Subtitle shadow enabled / color / X / Y offset | No / black / 3 / 3 | Shadow behind the letters. |
| Inject black iframe at video playback finish | No | Shows a black picture after playback, so the last video frame does not stay on screen. |
| Show iframe during audio playback | Yes | Shows a still picture (like the radio background) while audio-only items play. |
| Radio iframe file | /usr/share/enigma2/radio.mvi | The picture shown during audio playback. |
| Black iframe file | /usr/share/enigma2/black.mvi | The black picture used above. |
The former option GSTplayer no IFD workarround is gone. In buffering mode gstplayer reads the growing buffer file via
ifd://exactly when the GStreamer plugingst-ifdsrcis installed and loadable; otherwise the file is played without it. The System page of the Info screen shows the gst-ifdsrc state (version, "not loadable" for old builds newer GStreamer versions block, or "not installed"). If gstplayer reports an IFD error, reinstallgst-ifdsrc.
- All options on this page are stored in Enigma2's settings file (
/etc/enigma2/settings, lines starting withconfig.plugins.iptvplayer.). - Favourites, watched status, search history, host order etc. are in the Folder for config data (default
/etc/enigma2/IPTVPlayer/). - Include both in your image backup if you want to keep your E2iPlayer setup.
