Install
How to install, update and remove E2iPlayer, and which additional programs it uses.
- An Enigma2 receiver (ARM or MIPS) with a Python 3 image, e.g. OpenATV 7.x and newer or another OE-Alliance based image.
- A working internet connection on the box.
- A HDD, USB stick or network drive is recommended for downloads, buffering and the cache (the internal flash is small).
This version of E2iPlayer is for Python 3 images only. The install script stops with an error on a Python 2 image.
The best way is the normal feed installation. E2iPlayer and its helper programs then come from your image's feed and are updated together with the image.
- Menu → Plugins (or Extensions) → GREEN (Download plugins).
- Open the category Extensions (on some images IPTV).
- Select E2iPlayer and install it.
- Restart the Enigma2 GUI if you are asked to.
Open E2iPlayer from the plugin list. Where else it appears (main menu, extensions list, …) can be set in Settings → Basic configuration, see Settings explained.
If E2iPlayer is not available in your feed, or you want the newest development state right away, use the install script. Connect to your receiver via SSH or Telnet (e.g. ssh root@<box-ip>) and run:
wget -q "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oe-mirrors/e2iplayer/refs/heads/python3/e2iplayer_install.sh" -O - | /bin/shWhat the script does:
- Installs missing helper packages from the feed:
enigma2-plugin-extensions-e2iplayer-deps,enigma2-plugin-extensions-ppanel, PyCurl (python3-pycurl) and duktape. On OpenPLI it also installslibcrypto-compatif needed. - Checks that the image uses Python 3.
- Downloads the current state of the
python3branch from GitHub. -
Deletes the installed E2iPlayer plugin folder (
/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer) and copies the new one in its place. - Asks whether the Enigma2 GUI should be restarted now (y/n, default yes). Don't restart while a recording is running.
The output is also written to /home/root/_workdir/_e2iplayer_install.log.
Your settings are kept. They are not stored in the plugin folder: the options are in
/etc/enigma2/settings, favourites, search history, host order etc. in the config folder (default/etc/enigma2/IPTVPlayer/). Only files you added inside the plugin folder yourself (e.g. your own host files or logos) are lost. Keep a copy of them.
The script installs the newest state of the
python3branch. It may contain changes that are not in the feed yet, and it is replaced by the next feed update if E2iPlayer is also installed from the feed.
- Installed from the feed: update the image/plugins as usual (Menu → Setup → Software management → Software update, the exact path depends on the image). E2iPlayer and its helper programs are updated with it.
- Installed with the script: just run the script again. It replaces the plugin with the current version.
- What is new? The E2iPlayer info host (in the host list) and the Information page of the web interface show how far your installed version is behind the current one and the changes since then.
- Sites and hosters change all the time. If a host stops working, update first, many problems are already fixed. See Troubleshooting / FAQ.
E2iPlayer uses several external programs. Most of them are in the package enigma2-plugin-extensions-e2iplayer-deps or in your image's feed. Without them the related function is simply not available (or E2iPlayer uses a slower fallback).
| Program / package | Used for |
|---|---|
e2iplayer-deps (hlsdl, f4mdump, lsdir, cmdwrap, subtitle parser) |
HLS/m3u8 buffering and downloads, continuing HLS downloads (hlsdl v0.31+), f4m streams, the fast subtitle parser |
| exteplayer3 | External player eplayer3 (recommended, plays most streams) |
| gstplayer | External player gstplayer |
| ffmpeg | DASH downloads, joining separate audio/video (e.g. YouTube), picture conversion |
| wget / curl | Normal file downloads (Settings → Downloading → Program for file downloads) |
| curl-impersonate | Requests with the TLS fingerprint of Chrome: sites whose Cloudflare only checks that fingerprint open without a captcha, and HLS streams of servers that refuse every normal client play and download. In the openATV / OE-A feed it is installed together with e2iplayer-deps; on other images search the feed for curl-impersonate. |
| rtmpdump | RTMP streams |
| duktape / QuickJS | JavaScript engine some hosts need to decode their links |
PyCurl (python3-pycurl) |
Alternative HTTP library, can help with TLS/SSL problems (Use the PyCurl for HTTP(S) requests) |
Pillow (python3-pillow) |
Converting WebP/AVIF thumbnails |
| unzip / unrar | Packed subtitles downloaded from subtitle sites |
| TorrServer | Torrent playback. Not in any feed, you install it yourself: see Torrents with TorrServer. |
Package names can differ slightly between images. Search the feed for the program name.
Which of them are installed? Open the Info screen (BLUE → Info → page System). It lists every program with its version, or "not installed". The same list is on the Information page of the web interface.
- Download the repository from GitHub (python3 branch as .zip) and unpack it on your PC.
- Copy the folder
IPTVPlayerto/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/on the receiver (replace the old folder if there is one). - Install the helper programs from the feed (see above), at least
enigma2-plugin-extensions-e2iplayer-deps. - Restart the Enigma2 GUI.
From the feed: Menu → Plugins → RED (Remove plugins) → select E2iPlayer → remove, then restart the GUI.
Manually: delete the folder /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer (FTP or rm -rf in the console) and restart the GUI.
Your data is not removed automatically. If you want to delete everything:
- the config folder (default
/etc/enigma2/IPTVPlayer/), - the cache folder (default
/hdd/IPTVCache/), - the lines starting with
config.plugins.iptvplayer.in/etc/enigma2/settings(only edit this file while Enigma2 is stopped), - your downloads in the downloads folder (default
/hdd/movie/) if you don't need them any more.
The folders you use are shown in Settings → Storage configuration.
