Playlists and selection
Inside a host, E2iPlayer can play a list from top to bottom (the autoplay sequencer), work with marked rows (play, download, add to or remove from the favourites) and shuffle or reverse the playable items. All of it is in the BLUE (More) menu of a host list. The player then shows where you are in the run and lets you jump to another item.
Which entries the BLUE menu shows depends on the list and on whether the selection mode is on:
| Entry | Shown when | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Play all from here | The list has at least two rows that can be marked (see below) | Starts the autoplay sequencer at the selected row. Same as PLAY. |
| Select | Same | Switches the selection mode on. OK then marks rows. |
| Select all | Same | Switches the selection mode on and marks every row that can be marked. |
| Play marked items (n) | Selection mode, marked rows that can be played | Plays only the marked rows, in the current order of the list. |
| Download marked items (n) | Selection mode, marked rows that can be downloaded | Puts the marked rows into the download manager (batch download, see below). |
| Add marked items to favourites (n) | Selection mode, marked rows that can be favourites | Adds them to a favourites group; the group is asked once for all of them. |
| Remove marked items from favourites (n) | Selection mode, marked rows that are favourites | Removes them from the favourites (see below). |
| Unselect all | Selection mode | Removes all marks and ends the selection mode. |
| Randomize a playlist / Undo shuffle | The list has more than one playable item | Shuffles the playable items, or puts them back. |
| Reverse a playlist / Undo reverse | Same | Reverses the order of the playable items, or puts them back. |
| Download all items of this page | Not in selection mode, at least two rows of the page can be downloaded | Batch download of the whole page (see below). |
The number in brackets is how many of the marked rows that action can take. Rows it cannot handle are left out (and counted as skipped where the action reports a result).
The sequencer plays the rows of a list one after another, starting at the selected row.
- PLAY in a host list, or
- BLUE → Play all from here, or
- number key 8, when T9 letter jump in lists is off or no title starts with a letter of key 8 (see Number keys), or
- BLUE → Play marked items (n) in the selection mode: only the marked rows, starting at the first marked one.
- Video, audio and picture rows, in the order they have on the screen (shuffled or reversed, if you changed the order).
- Rows of a PIN-protected host that was not unlocked yet are skipped.
- Categories, search entries and other folders are skipped; the sequencer does not open them.
- A "More" row at the end of a list loads the next items and the run goes on with them. (A plain run only: a Play marked items run ends after the last marked row.) Loading the next items gives a new list, so its order is the original one again.
- When an item has several links, the first link is taken without asking. When an item has no working link, the sequencer goes on with the next one.
- A picture is shown for about 10 seconds, then the next item starts. OK, PLAY or PAUSE in the picture viewer keeps the picture on screen.
Before each item a countdown runs: Settings → Players & playback → Autoplay start delay (0–9 seconds, default 3). With 0 the list is not shown between the items. Live TV stays off during the whole run.
- In the player: EXIT or STOP ends the playback and the run. When a video ends by itself, the next item starts.
- In the picture viewer, EXIT only closes the picture and the run goes on; stop it in the list during the countdown.
- In the list (during the countdown): EXIT, OK, a colour key, MENU (when it has entries), INFO or CH+ / CH− stop it, and so does a number key that starts a player (0–4). A number key that only jumps to a title (T9) moves the selection, and the sequencer goes on from there.
- At the end of the list the run stops by itself.
CH+ / CH− (also >| / |<) close the player and start the next / previous video or audio row of the list. During a run the sequencer keeps running from the new item. In a Play marked items run they only go to marked rows. See also Playback and subtitles.
With the external eplayer3 or external gstplayer (also in buffering mode), the player knows the run:
-
Info bar: a line
Playlist n/mshows the position of the current item among the items of the run, with the kind of run in brackets, e.g.Playlist 3/10 (marked, shuffled). The words are marked (Play marked items), shuffled and reversed. The line is in every player skin. - MENU → Show playlist: the items of the run in the order they are played, over the running video (playback goes on). The current item is highlighted, items already played in this run get a tick and grey text. OK on another item closes the player and starts that item, like CH+/CH−; the run goes on from there. EXIT closes the list.
The playlist covers the rows of the current page (a "More" row is not part of it). The internal and standard players show no playlist line and no Show playlist.
- BLUE → Select (a short hint appears: "OK marks an item, BLUE shows what can be done with the marked items."), or BLUE → Select all.
- OK marks or unmarks the selected row and moves on to the next one, so you can mark several episodes with OK, OK, OK.
- A marked row gets a tick on its item icon.
- BLUE shows what can be done with the marked rows (see the table above).
- EXIT (or BLUE → Unselect all) ends the selection mode and removes all marks. EXIT goes back one level only after that.
Which rows can be marked: video, audio and picture rows. Live streams (rows the host marks as live) can't be marked. Folders, search entries and "next page" rows can't be marked either.
What the marks survive:
- Shuffle and reverse: the marks move with their rows.
- A refresh of the same list during a run of the sequencer (e.g. when a favourite is set to watched): the marks and the changed order are kept.
- Any other new list (opening a folder, going back, YELLOW Refresh, loading more items) starts without marks and in the original order.
| Action | Details |
|---|---|
| Play marked items | Runs the sequencer over the marked rows only. The marks stay during the run. |
| Download marked items | Batch download of the marked rows that can be downloaded (see below). The selection mode ends. |
| Add marked items to favourites | The favourites dialog opens once for all rows: choose a group or create a new one. Afterwards: "n added, n skipped." (rows that were already in that group are skipped). The selection mode stays. |
| Remove marked items from favourites | Asks "Remove n items from the favourites?". Inside a favourites group it removes the marked favourites from that group. In a host list it removes the marked rows from every favourites group they are in (the rows with the favourite star). Afterwards: "n removed, n skipped." The selection mode stays. |
Only rows that can be saved as favourites (the same rule as Add item to favorites) are taken for the favourites actions. Inside a favourites group, the rows of Newest videos (all YouTube channels) are no stored favourites and can't be removed.
- BLUE → Randomize a playlist shuffles the playable items of the list, BLUE → Reverse a playlist reverses them. Both can be on at the same time.
- Folders, search entries and "next page" rows keep their place; only the playable items change places among each other.
- While the order is changed, the header line ends with
(shuffled),(reversed)or(shuffled, reversed). - The entries then read Undo shuffle / Undo reverse. Undoing one keeps the other.
- Marks move with their rows. Favourites, the watched status and the markers still refer to the right item.
- A new list always starts in the order the host gives.
Start the sequencer afterwards (PLAY or Play all from here) to play the list in the new order.
BLUE → Download all items of this page puts all downloadable rows of the current page into the download manager at once, after the question "Add n items to the download queue?". With the selection mode, Download marked items (n) does the same for the marked rows only.
- Only video and audio rows that could be saved as favourites (Add item to favorites) are taken, because the download manager opens them again later the way a favourite is opened. This works in the hosts and inside favourites groups, but not in the XXX host (it has its own favourites) and not for files of LocalMedia.
- Skipped: live streams, rows of a PIN-protected host that is still locked, rows that are already in the queue or already downloaded, and the same item twice. The free space of the downloads folder is checked once for all rows.
- Afterwards: "n items added to the download queue, n skipped." With Show download manager after adding new item on, the download manager opens next.
- The links are looked up only when the row's turn comes (hoster links expire). How this works in the download manager, and the setting Pause between the batch lookups of one host [s], is on Download manager → Batch download.
| Key | Function |
|---|---|
| 1–9 | With T9 letter jump in lists on (default): jump to the next title starting with a letter of that key (2 = A B C, 3 = D E F, …). |
| 0 | Play the selected item with the automatic player choice (forgets a player chosen for this host). |
| 1 | First player, with buffering |
| 2 | Second player, with buffering |
| 3 | First player, without buffering |
| 4 | Second player, without buffering |
| 8 | Start the autoplay sequencer |
Keys 1–4 and 8 do this when T9 is off, or when no title starts with a letter of that key. Keys 1–4 also remember that player for this host. More in Controls and navigation.
