Troubleshooting FAQ
This page explains the most common E2iPlayer messages: what they mean and what you can do about them.
First steps for any problem:
- Update E2iPlayer (feed or install script). Sites and hosters change all the time and many problems are already fixed in the latest version.
- Try another link/mirror if the video has several.
- Check the site in a browser on your PC. If it doesn't work there either, E2iPlayer can't fix it.
- Still broken? Report it with a debug log.
E2iPlayer is only a specialised web browser. It does not host any content. If a site removes a video, blocks your country or goes offline, E2iPlayer cannot change that.
The host found no playable link, or resolving the link failed.
- Look at the Last error line below the message. It usually tells you why (see the next entries).
- If the video has several mirrors, the failed one is marked and the link list opens again: try another mirror.
- If it happens for every video of a host, the site has probably changed. Update E2iPlayer or report it.
E2iPlayer has no resolver for this video hoster (or it is known not to work). Pick another mirror.
The hoster removed the file. Use another mirror. Nothing can be done in E2iPlayer.
These resolvers need the external service enc-dec.app (VidEasy, VidLink and Peachify no longer do, they decrypt on the box), which is switched off by default for privacy reasons. You can switch it on in Settings → Security → Allow external link-decryption service (enc-dec.app). Read the explanation first: it sends the TMDb id of what you play and your IP address to a third party. See Settings explained.
The resolved link is not a stream E2iPlayer understands. Try another mirror. If it happens for every video of a host, report it.
The link is a .wmv file and Block wmv files is on. Most boxes can't play WMV anyway. If yours can, switch it off in Settings → Players & playback.
An error occurred inside the host. Update E2iPlayer. If it still happens, report it with a debug log. If the message says "This host is not integral part of the E2iPlayer plugin", it is a third-party host that the E2iPlayer team does not support.
The listed hosts could not be loaded. Usually a Python package from the feed is missing, or a host file is broken. Update E2iPlayer and your image. The debug log shows the exact error.
The external player (exteplayer3 or gstplayer) is missing or broken.
- Install or reinstall it from your image's feed, or
- choose another player in Settings → Players & playback (see Playback and subtitles).
- With gstplayer and "no element playbin2": the GStreamer plugins are missing.
The video has separate audio and video streams, which only exteplayer3 can play. Switch to external eplayer3.
In buffering mode gstplayer could not open the buffer file via ifd://. E2iPlayer only uses ifd:// when the GStreamer plugin gst-ifdsrc is installed and loadable; the Info screen (System page) shows its state. Reinstall gst-ifdsrc from the feed, or use exteplayer3. (Older versions said "…or disable IFD in GSTplayer configuration"; that option no longer exists, the check is automatic now.)
In buffering mode, this MP4 file can only be played after it is fully downloaded (the index is at the end of the file). Wait, or use external eplayer3 without buffering, which starts much faster.
These appear as Last error. In most cases they can't be fixed in E2iPlayer.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "This video requires you to sign in to a YouTube account." | Age or login restricted video. Not playable without a login. |
| "Encryption function … extraction failed" / "Decrypt Signatures Error" | YouTube changed its player. Update E2iPlayer or report it. |
| "Video with DRM protection." / "DRM protection detected." | The video is copy-protected. It can't be played on Enigma2. |
| "This content is only available in Switzerland." (and similar) | Region lock. A proxy for that country may help if the host has a proxy option. |
| "… free transfer limit reached - PREMIUM account required." | The hoster limits free users. Try later, use another mirror, or a premium account. |
| "To watch videos from https://vk.com/ you need to login…" | Enter your vk.com login in Settings → Service configuration. vk.com logins do not always work. |
| "The website returned a server error for this request." | The site has a problem. Try again later. |
Some sites use server-side bot protection that blocks E2iPlayer completely. There is nothing to solve in a browser. The host then shows no links or an error until the site changes again.
"Link protected with Google ReCaptcha v2" / "Please visit … to learn how to redirect this task to the external device."
The site wants a captcha and no solving method is configured. You have these options:
- MyE2i (recommended, free): solve the captcha in the browser on your PC or phone. See Solve Cloudflare / hCaptcha / reCAPTCHA with MyE2i. MyE2i is also the only method for reCAPTCHA v3 and Cloudflare Turnstile.
- MyJDownloader: see Solve Google reCAPTCHA v2.
- 2captcha.com / 9kw.eu (paid): enter the API key in Settings → Captcha configuration.
Update the MyE2i browser extension to the version shown in the message.
E2iPlayer is waiting for you to solve the captcha. Open that address in the browser that has the MyE2i extension (or scan the QR code).
'HTTPS connection error "…"' / "It looks like your current configuration do not allow to connect to the https://…/."
The secure connection to the site failed. The message ends with one of these hints:
- "You can disable HTTPS certificates validation in the E2iPlayer configuration…": switch off Settings → Security → https - validate SSL certificates.
- "You can enable PyCurl in the E2iPlayer configuration…": switch on Settings → Basic → Use the PyCurl for HTTP(S) requests.
-
"You can install PyCurl package with TLS 1.3 support from the feed…": install
python3-pycurl(name may differ per image) from the feed, then enable PyCurl.
Old images with outdated SSL libraries often can't connect to modern sites at all. An image update helps.
The site refused the request (HTTP 403). Usually a region lock or bot protection.
The cache folder is not writable or full. Check Settings → Storage and the free space of that drive.
"No storage found for the cache folder. The cache folder will be switched to the plugin's own cache directory."
The drive of your cache folder (HDD/USB) was not mounted when E2iPlayer started. E2iPlayer uses its own folder instead, so the flash doesn't fill up. Mount the drive and set the folder again in Settings → Storage.
The downloads folder is not on a real drive (e.g. no HDD connected). Choose a folder on a HDD or USB stick.
'There is no storage device under "…" (… free). E2iPlayer will switch this folder back to "…" at the next start.'
You chose a cache or buffering folder that is not on a mounted drive. On many images /media/hdd exists even without a HDD, as an empty folder in a tiny RAM disk. Choose the folder of your USB stick or HDD instead (the console command df -h shows where it is mounted).
The download or buffering folder is missing or has less than about 1.5 GB free. Free up space or choose another folder in Settings → Downloading / Buffering. "Tip! You can connect USB flash drive to fix this problem."
The cache drive is full, so no new thumbnails can be stored. Free up space, delete the thumbnail cache (Settings → Storage → Detail/expert mode) or move the cache folder.
You used a Delete … now action, but the folder also contains other data (downloads, another E2iPlayer folder) or is not a dedicated E2iPlayer folder. E2iPlayer refuses to protect your files. Give cache and config their own folders.
This kind of stream (e.g. some live streams) can't be downloaded. Watch it directly instead.
The same file is already in the download manager.
"Downloading can not be started. Downloader … does not work properly." / 'Utility "…" can not be found.'
A download tool (ffmpeg, wget, curl, hlsdl, …) is missing. Install it from the feed. The System page of the Info screen (BLUE → Info) shows which tools are installed.
The detail line tells you why, e.g. "Could not resolve host.", "Operation timed out.", "SSL verification failure.", "Server issued an error response (HTTP 4xx/5xx).". Retry later or use another mirror. See Download manager.
Continuing HLS downloads needs hlsdl v0.31 or newer and the helper file <file name>.hlsdl.resume next to the video. Update hlsdl from the feed (the installed version is shown on the System page of the Info screen). Downloads started with an older hlsdl, and live recordings, can only be downloaded again. See Download manager.
Wait until a download finishes or raise Number of downloaded files simultaneously in Settings → Downloading.
Torrent links need TorrServer, which you install yourself, and Settings → Torrent configuration → Play torrents with TorrServer. See Torrents with TorrServer.
The stream's server refuses every normal client. Install the package curl-impersonate from your image's feed (see Install → Helper programs).
Some hosts need a JavaScript engine (duktape or QuickJS). Restart Enigma2 and accept the installation when E2iPlayer offers it, or install it from the feed.
Downloaded subtitles are packed. Install unzip / unrar from the feed.
The fast native subtitle parser is not installed. Subtitles still work, just slower with very large subtitle files.
Which tools are installed? Open the Info screen (BLUE → Info → page System). It lists hlsdl, ffmpeg, wget, curl, curl-impersonate, rtmpdump, f4mdump, duktape, QuickJS, exteplayer3, gstplayer, PyCurl, Pillow and the subtitle parser, each with its version or "not installed".
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "Some settings will be applied only after GUI restart." | Restart the Enigma2 GUI to apply menu entries, auto start, skin, PIN or web interface changes. |
| "Some changes will be applied only after movie player restart." | Start the video again. |
| "Pin incorrect!" | Wrong PIN. The default PIN is 0000. A host with Use own pin instead of the player pin has its own PIN (also 0000 until you set one). |
| "Service […] has no additional settings." | This host has no own options. Only information. |
| "At least one of plugin browser, extension list and main menu has to stay on…" | You tried to hide all start entries. One must stay on, otherwise E2iPlayer could not be started any more. |
Forgot the PIN? The PIN is stored in /etc/enigma2/settings (config.plugins.iptvplayer.pin=). Stop Enigma2 (init 4), remove that line, start it again (init 3). The PIN is then back to 0000.
A host is missing on the start screen. It may be disabled (Settings → Services configuration), in a hidden group, or removed because the site is dead. The torrent hosts are only shown while torrent playback is switched on (Settings → Torrent configuration).
E2iPlayer is slow on my box. Switch off Display thumbnails, use Simple list as host list type, and turn off debug logging.
The screen looks wrong with my skin. Try Settings → Skin → Force internal skin: all E2iPlayer screens.
Playback stutters. Try a lower quality, a RAM buffer for exteplayer3 (External movie player config), or buffering mode. See Playback and subtitles.
Please open an issue on GitHub or post in the oATV forum thread with:
-
E2iPlayer version, image (name + version) and box model. The easiest way: BLUE → Info → page System → GREEN Save, then attach
/tmp/e2iplayer_sysinfo.txt. - What you did: host → category → item, and what happened (the exact message).
-
The debug log (
iptv.dbg), created while reproducing the problem. See How to create debug logs. - For crashes of the whole GUI (green screen): also the enigma2 crash log from
/home/root/logs/.
One problem per issue, please. Check first whether an issue for it already exists.
