E2iPlayer web interface

E2iPlayer has a small web interface. From a browser on your PC, tablet or phone you can browse hosts, search, queue downloads, change settings and get the debug log, without the remote control.

The web interface cannot start playback on the TV. It is meant for browsing, downloading and maintenance.

Requirements and switching it on

  1. Your image needs the OpenWebif (or the old WebInterface) plugin. Almost every image has it.

  2. In the E2iPlayer settings, Basic configuration, set Initialize web interface to Yes (it is off by default). See Settings explained.

  3. Save and restart the Enigma2 GUI. The web interface is only started at GUI start.

  4. Open in your browser:

    http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer

If your OpenWebif runs on another port, add it: http://<box-ip>:<port>/iptvplayer.

E2iPlayer does not open its own server. It runs as a part of OpenWebif, on the same address and port. If OpenWebif asks for a login, that login also protects the E2iPlayer pages.

Menu

When no host is open, the top menu shows:

Information · Selected hosts · Search · Download manager · Settings · Logs · Reset State

While a host is open, it is reduced to:

Active host · Download manager · Logs · Reset State

To get the full menu back, use Return to hosts list on the host page or Reset State.

At the bottom you see the E2iPlayer version and the web interface version.

Selected hosts

http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer/hosts

  • Shows the logos of all enabled hosts, in your host order (otherwise alphabetical).
  • Click a logo to open the host. The small link below the logo opens the host's website.
  • The first time, the list is built in the background ("Loading data, please wait"). The page refreshes itself until it is ready.

The local hosts (Local media, URL list) are not offered in the web interface.

Using a host (Active host)

  • The header shows the host, the current title, level and path.
  • Buttons: Previous list, Reload list, Initial list and Return to hosts list. They are repeated below long lists.
  • Click a category to open it.
  • For a search item, enter the text and press the search button. Hosts with several search types show one button per type (Search in '…').
  • Click a video to see its links (Links for "…"):
    • Select resolves a link that is not final yet (e.g. a hoster page) into playable links.
    • Add to downloader puts the final link into the E2iPlayer download manager on the box.
    • Watch opens the raw stream address in a new browser tab. Many streams (HLS, protected links) will not play in a browser. Use Add to downloader or watch it on the box.
  • "No valid urls" means the host or hoster returned no working link.

Downloads added from the web are saved in the downloads folder as <title>.mp4. Links that cannot be downloaded (e.g. some live streams) are silently ignored.

Search

http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer/search

  • Enter a text and press Search in all active hosts. Choose All materials, Only videos or Only music.
  • All enabled hosts are searched one after another. The page shows which host is currently searched. Cancel stops the search.
  • The results are grouped by host. Click a result to open that host with the same search, and continue from there.
  • PIN-protected hosts are skipped.

Download manager

http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer/downloader

This is the same download manager as on the box. Items added on the TV show up here and the other way round.

  • If it was not started yet, press Initialize Download Manager.
  • Start / Stop: starts or stops the download queue. The status is shown as Manager status: STARTED / STOPPED.
  • Downloads: the current queue with file name, address, progress, speed and status.
  • Archive: finished .mp4/.flv files in the downloads folder that are no longer in the queue.
  • The page refreshes itself every few seconds.

Buttons per item, depending on the status:

Status Buttons
Pending —
Downloading Watch, Stop download
Downloaded / Aborted Watch, Download again, Delete
Download error Download again, Delete
Archive Watch, Delete (deletes the file from the box)

Watch in the download manager downloads the file from the box to your PC (via OpenWebif). This is the easiest way to copy a download to your computer without FTP. It only works for files in the E2iPlayer downloads folder.

Settings

http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer/settings

  • Upper part: all E2iPlayer settings, grouped like on the box (see Settings explained).
  • Lower part, Hosts settings: every host with an Enable / Disable button and its own options (logins, quality, proxy, …).
  • Every option has its own Save button. The change is saved on the box immediately, then the page reloads. Some options need a GUI restart, just like on the box.
  • PIN settings cannot be changed from the web (PIN codes and PIN protection on/off, including the XXX host PIN). This is on purpose.

The Settings, Logs and Download manager pages are not protected by E2iPlayer's configuration PIN. Anyone who can open the web interface can change the other settings. Don't expose OpenWebif to the internet without a password.

Logs

http://<box-ip>/iptvplayer/logs

  • Shows the size of the E2iPlayer debug log and its last 1000 lines.
  • Download log file saves the complete log as iptv_dbg.txt, ready to attach to a bug report.
  • Delete log file appears when the log is larger than 1 MB.
  • If debug logging is off or set to console, the page says so. See How to create debug logs.

Reset State

Resets the web interface: closes the active host, clears the search and cached pages, and stops running background tasks. Use it when a page hangs (e.g. "please wait" forever) or when you want to leave a host quickly. It does not change settings or downloads.

Good to know

  • One shared state: the web interface has no separate sessions. If two people use it at the same time, they share the same active host and search.
  • Web and TV at the same time: browsing on the web and on the TV at the same time works, as the web interface uses its own host instances. The download manager and the settings are shared.
  • Captchas and dialogs: the web interface cannot show captchas, PIN prompts or other dialogs. Hosts or links that need them work only on the box. If a page hangs, use Reset State.
  • PIN protection:
    • With Pin protection for plugin switched on, hosts and search are not available on the web.
    • PIN-protected hosts and folders stay closed.
  • The pages are simple HTML pages. They work in every browser, but are not optimised for small phone screens.
