Forge of Empires Glossary

Aging Up

Moving your city from its current Age to the next one. Aging up unlocks new technologies, buildings, units, goods, and parts of the campaign map. Because enemies, quests, and some game mechanics may also become more difficult, many players prepare their city before moving to a higher Age.

Attrition

A difficulty value used in Guild Battlegrounds. Attrition increases when you complete battles or negotiations and makes future encounters progressively harder. The higher your attrition becomes, the stronger enemy armies are and the more goods negotiations may require.

Blue Boosts

Combat bonuses that apply to your defending army. These bonuses increase the attack and defense values of units when your city, guild, or other game content is being defended. They are often called "blue boosts" because defensive bonuses are displayed in blue in many FoE interfaces.

Camping

Remaining in the same Age for a longer period instead of immediately progressing to the next one. Players may camp in an Age to strengthen their city, level Great Buildings, collect resources, improve combat boosts, or prepare for a later Age.

Close / Closing a Sector

Completing the final encounter needed to capture a sector in Guild Battlegrounds. Closing a sector can be strategically important because the sector changes ownership immediately, which may open new sectors, block opponents, or affect movement on the Battleground map.

Double Dip

Collecting the reward from a Great Building shortly before it is leveled and then collecting it again after the level-up. Since leveling a Great Building resets its collection timer, this allows the owner to receive two collections within a very short period.

FP / Forge Points

One of the main resources in Forge of Empires. Forge Points are used to unlock technologies in the research tree and to level Great Buildings. They can also be invested in other players' Great Buildings to earn rewards such as Forge Points, medals, and blueprints.

Fragment

A partial piece of a building, upgrade kit, selection kit, or other reward. Once enough fragments of the same item have been collected, they can be combined into the complete item. Fragments are commonly earned from events, special buildings, and recurring game features.

GB / Great Building

A special building that provides powerful bonuses and can be leveled by investing Forge Points. Great Buildings require a complete blueprint set and goods to construct. Increasing their level improves their bonuses and, depending on the building, may also improve its rewards.

GBG / Guild Battlegrounds

A competitive guild feature in which several guilds compete for control of sectors on a shared map. Players capture sectors through battles or negotiations. Guilds can also construct sector buildings that provide strategic advantages.

GEx / GE / Guild Expedition

A weekly guild feature consisting of several difficulty levels filled with encounters. Players can complete encounters either by fighting or negotiating. Progress contributes to the guild's overall Expedition result, while individual players receive rewards from encounters and milestone chests.

Lock / Secure

Investing enough Forge Points into a Great Building reward position so that the position can no longer be taken profitably by another player. A secured position normally guarantees that the investor will keep that rank when the Great Building is leveled.

Owner Contribution / OC

The amount of Forge Points invested into a Great Building by its owner. The owner's contribution is important when calculating when reward positions become secure and how many additional Forge Points the owner still needs to contribute before the building can be leveled.

P1–P5

The first five reward positions in a Great Building. P1 is the highest-ranked contributor and receives the largest reward, followed by P2, P3, P4, and P5. Rewards usually consist of Forge Points, medals, and blueprints.

Power Leveling

Leveling a Great Building through many levels in a short period of time. This is usually done with the help of a guild or contribution group that quickly fills the reward positions while the owner contributes the required Forge Points between levels.

QI / Quantum Incursions

A guild feature played on a separate map using its own temporary settlement, resources, units, and combat boosts. Players work together to progress through nodes and encounters while developing their Quantum settlement.

Red Boosts

Combat bonuses that apply to your attacking army. They increase the attack and defense values of units when you initiate a battle. These bonuses are commonly called "red boosts" because offensive combat bonuses are displayed in red in many FoE interfaces.

Rush

A coordinated attempt to capture one or more Guild Battleground sectors as quickly as possible. Guilds may rush sectors to gain a strategic position, prevent an opponent from taking them, or secure access to another part of the map.

Selection Kit

An inventory item that allows the player to choose one reward from several available options. Selection Kits are commonly used for event buildings and may contain a base building, an upgrade, or an alternative version of the same building.

Sniper

A player who takes a reward position in another player's Great Building without prior agreement with the owner. A sniper usually invests only enough Forge Points to secure a profitable position and then receives the corresponding reward when the building is leveled. Sniping can benefit or disadvantage the owner depending on the amount invested and whether the position had been reserved for another contributor.

Swap Thread

A guild contribution thread where players exchange Forge Point investments with each other. One player contributes a fixed amount to another player's Great Building and later receives the same amount back in their own Great Building. Unlike fixed-factor threads, reward positions are not necessarily calculated according to a specific multiplier.

1.9 Thread

An organized Great Building contribution system based on a reward multiplier of 1.9. Players with a sufficiently high-level Arc can invest 1.9 times the base Forge Point reward of a position and receive that amount back through their boosted reward. The Great Building owner prepares and secures the positions before posting them in the thread.

1.95 / 2.0 Thread

Contribution systems that work similarly to a 1.9 thread but use a higher multiplier. Investors contribute 1.95 or 2.0 times the base Forge Point reward for a position. These threads can reduce the owner's own Forge Point cost further but generally require higher reward bonuses from the contributing players.

Upgrade Kit

An inventory item used to upgrade a specific building to a higher level or improved version. Upgrade Kits are commonly earned during events and can usually only be applied to the matching base building or one of its earlier upgrade stages.
