Update the bootloader

The easy way to update the booloader eeprom on your RPi4 is to use the rpi-imager. You can install this on your system using a flatpak from flathub - Raspberry Pi Imager.

  1. Install the flatpak and run the imager.
  2. Insert a MicroSD card in a reader on your development workstation.
  3. From the Operating system dropdown select "Misc utility images" (Bootloader EEPROM configurations, etc.) > Bootloader > USB Boot
  4. Pick your MircoSD card device from the Storage dropdown.
  5. Click Write

Safely eject the storage and boot your Pi4 from the MicroSD card once to update the bootloader eeprom. If the update of the bootloader is successful your Pi4 should display a solid green screen on the HDMI output and a flashing green activity LED. (Thanks David Egts!)
