Troubleshooting

No menu bar icon

  • A menu bar manager hides it. Bartender, Ice, Hidden Bar, SmartHiddenBar and similar apps hide new items by default. Show hidden items and ⌘-drag the Window Organizer icon to the visible part of the bar. Some of them (Hidden Bar / SmartHiddenBar on macOS 27) only allow apps that run from /Applications, so don't run it from a build folder.
  • The notch. On MacBooks with a notch, items that don't fit are hidden behind it. Quit a few menu bar apps or use a menu bar manager.
  • macOS menu bar settings. On recent macOS versions check System Settings → Menu Bar and make sure Window Organizer is allowed.
  • It isn't running. pgrep -fl "Window Organizer". Open it again from /Applications.

Minimize / close do nothing

  • Accessibility is missing or stale: see Permissions.
  • The app is excluded, or skipped by default: check Settings → Apps.
  • The window is on another Space and the scope is Current visible context: switch the scope in Settings → Behavior.
  • Some apps don't expose their windows (or a close button) through Accessibility; nothing can be done from outside the app.

A shortcut doesn't fire

  • Another app already owns the combination: the action shows an orange ⚠︎ in Settings → Shortcuts. Record a different one.
  • The recorder refused the keys: use ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥ with the key (F-keys work alone), and don't reuse another action's shortcut. On MacBooks, F-keys need Fn unless "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is on.

Quit leaves some apps open

Quit asks apps politely, the same as ⌘Q. Apps with unsaved documents show their save dialog and wait for you. Use force quit only when you accept losing unsaved work.

Still stuck

Open an issue with your macOS version, the Window Organizer version, and which app misbehaved.
