Usage and shortcuts

Window Organizer lives in the menu bar. Every action works from a global shortcut (any app focused) or from the menu bar menu.

Default shortcuts

Shortcut Action
⌃⌥⌘M Minimize all windows
⌃⌥⌘W Close all windows
⌃⌥⌘Q Quit apps
⌃⌥⌘⇧Q Force quit apps (asks first)

Menu bar menu

  • Minimize All Windows, Close All Windows, Quit Apps
  • Force Quit Apps…
  • Settings…
  • Quit Window Organizer

Settings

Shortcuts

One row per action. Click the shortcut, then press the new combination: any key (letters, digits, punctuation, arrows, Space, F-keys) with ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥; F-keys may be used alone. While recording, the modifiers you hold show up live (⌃⌥…). Esc cancels; Delete or the ⓧ button removes the shortcut. A combination already used by another action is refused. Global shortcuts are paused while recording, so the old combo doesn't fire. Restore Defaults brings back the four defaults. An orange ⚠︎ next to an action means macOS refused its shortcut because another app already owns it.

Behavior

  • Action scope
    • Current visible context (default): windows on the current Space and displays.
    • All Spaces and displays: every window macOS exposes, best effort.
  • Force Quit Apps always asks for confirmation.

Apps

Lists running apps with their icon, whether the actions currently target them, and a rule per app.

  • Search by app name or bundle identifier.
  • Kind: Dock & menu bar apps (default), Dock apps, Menu bar apps, Background processes, or All processes.
  • Developer: Apple (com.apple.*) or Third-party.
  • Status: Targeted (the actions will hit it now), Skipped, or Has a rule.

Filters combine; the footer shows how many of the running apps match. The list updates by itself as apps launch and quit.

Rules:

  • Default: follow the built-in rules (see FAQ → Which apps are targeted?).
  • Include: always target this app, even if it is skipped by default (for example Finder).
  • Exclude: never touch this app.

Rules are stored by bundle identifier, so they survive restarts of the app.

General

  • Launch at Login
  • Accessibility: live status; Grant Access… when missing. It flips to Granted on its own a moment after you enable it in System Settings.
  • Last action: the result of the last action.
  • About: version, GitHub and Ko-fi links.
