What is "GoodWill"
In short, Subutai™ GoodWill is an exchangeable platform asset, or in lay terms a kind of internal digital currency on the platform. It's like an asset in a video game that you can trade with others in the game.
That all depends on you and others on the platform. Subutai let's people determine the market value of the "GoodWill" based on what they're willing to trade for it in computer resources.
The platform has preset container types (various container resource configurations). Here's the list:
| Type | RAM | DISK | CPU |
|---|---|---|---|
| TINY | 256M | 4G | 10% |
| SMALL | 512M | 10G | 25% |
| MEDIUM | 1024M | 20G | 50% |
| LARGE | 2048M | 40G | 75% |
| HUGE | 4096M | 100G | 100% |
The disk and RAM is pretty self explanatory. The CPU is the percentage that the container is allowed to consume with all cores on the machine it runs on.
People on the platform can keep their peers private or just share them with select people and not even bother renting their resources. Others can rent resources for "GoodWill". The market value in "GoodWill" of these containers on January 28th, 2018 is:
When participants rent resources from each other they can create their own prices for these container types or they can just sell them at market value. The market value is determined through a rolling average with the removal of outliers.
No it is not, well not yet, and even then it gets fuzzy. "GoodWill" right now has no association with cryptocurrency, however we're looking at efficient ways the blockchain can back it. This is mostly in case a Hub implementation gets hacked and needs to reconstitute people's "GoodWill" balances. However it does not make sense to turn it into a cryptocurrency at the moment.
The minuscule container resources are so cheap to use and rent per hour that the "costs" on all axes of transacting using existing blockchains would not justify the purchase. There are some techniques we're looking at like off chain streams for micro-transactions etc.
One approach eventually is to model "GoodWill" as an asset token, like Bancor's SmartToken. These are all ideas floating around. Join us on the Subutai Slack if you want to discuss how we can model the market better. We're keen on doing that in a community driven manner as well.
